If you're OK with running for a few seconds when you get into trouble, you don't even need magery. Anatomy/Healing plus a nice supply of potions and a couple tables/kegs/stools to drop is good enough.
LOL at parrying on a weaponless mage though. Parry kind of sucks with a weapon (potions need a free hand), but that's mitigated if your sword hand is free. I like it.

I just pretend my shield is a halberd that I can drink potions through. I even arm it before getting hit, or I will arm-attack-last people with it.

Yeah, med for a healer. I'd lose hide and keep the parry.
That could be a really useful character in the field for group PvP.

well the only benefit of staying alive in a field/group fight (besides not losing your stuff) is having longer to kill your opponent(s). that template wouldn't be able to kill anything.

You could also swap macing for hiding and use greater heal wands.
