For every awesome custom house, there are ten others where the color scheme is based on someone's favorite sports team. Its a bad idea.

The only custom housing I'd like to see is what was discussed in other threads. That being:
- Allow a small house to be placed on top of a tower
Allow houses to be placed over illegal terrain (of course this incurs the added risk of basement break-ins)
Allow some set number of GZ houses on the shard (maybe nul'jem, ocollo, cove) point being allow them in not the greatest vendor locations so as to not break the current vendor economy
Obviously all of these would cost an extreme amount of gold, lets say start off the top one at 5 mil and go up to 50-100 mil for the bottom one.
The other thing I might like to see with this as far as custom housing is custom add-ons. Those being like the current add-ons but different sizes or graphics/colors. Again these would start near 1 mil and go up for more complex designs. When the house is transferred, sold, or demolished the add-ons are lost as well.

Don't staff watch the in-game economy fairly closely? If a gold sink was needed, wouldn't they be the ones spearheading the efforts to implement one?

If staff watched these threads closely, they'd have locked this up about 10 posts ago.
I hate these so much.

Well then, lets keep this going.
When ppl are offering 17mil to buy houses, i would say thats a good indicator a gold sink is needed......

Everyone is an economist on the Internet it seems.
I'm skeptical until the people who actually see the data say a gold sink is needed. Nothing personal, but I don't think you are one of them.

I don't know if felix is one of the richest players on the shard, but I will say I can't think of anyone else who has played so constantly and purposefully over the last year. So if he has 17 million, or 30 million, it wouldn't surprise me.
I don't necessarily think extreme wealth on the shard is a problem. One person owning five of the shard's 45 castles... that I see as a problem. The gold itself, not so much. Most people with that much wealth just use it to trade neon sandals back and forth.
If the five-castle guy were to sell each one individually, I think that would be a much better thing to do for the shard.

I think that's a one-off sale.
When you can't sell a tower for deed+small, and when you can buy some decent power weapons (bardiche/broadswds) for under 1k, I say we do not yet need a gold sink.
Yes, there are the ubber-rich (like flash, Faustus, etc.), but how many of them are around as opposed to the total active population of the shard? Us simple mortals can't even afford a tower deed!!

This is something people say a lot, but I disagree in a sense.
A brand new player does not need a power bardiche to kill monsters; they can get by with store-bought weapons and/or reagents and/or musical instruments. So, as long as Joe Newbie can log in and obtain power bardiches from monster loot, the actual going rate (in gold pieces) of such an item is irrelevant.
If power bardiches sold for 100k, then Joe Newbie couldn't afford one for a while. UNTIL HE PULLED ONE FROM LOOT. Then, he can sell it for 100k and have that much gold to buy other stuff with. If power bardiches sold for 50 gp, then Joe Newbie could afford one, but if he found more he wouldn't really be gaining anything.
It's all relative. That's why I tend to believe statements like "We need a gold sink!" are misinformed. 99% of this game is played with items that are freely available (loot on monsters, bought in shops, etc.) and very liquid (easy to buy and sell). The ratio of prices will be the same regardless of it's scale. The absolute values themselves are annoying to new players in the very very very immediate future, if prices are "high".
But as soon as the new player acquires his first non-shop-sold weapon or item, they're in the same position whether it's a power bardiche in a world where it sells for 1k, or a power bardiche in a world where it sells for 100k.

This post illustrates why economics are a bit more complicated than simply looking at what one or two people are willing to pay for an item. Kudos.

Bob, you would argue with a wall I am betting......and would argue against CUB'ing the 5.25 million items as well.

I liked mini towers.. fit in the same spot as a house.. that would be nice... but never going to happen.
Those custom houses look like Kevin Ford made them.

No, I only argue when people are wrong.
I'm sorry you were wrong.
