So, a video and screen shots of a guild showing three separate attempts of this exact technique is completely cool? The only reason they were not successful is because I didn't fall for it and move my boat. It is not like this is the first time they have done this as you can see it has been practiced. They are blatantly exploiting game mechanics to loot boats. Would I be banned for attempting to dupe gold even if I was not successful? (Probably so....)

It might not be "cool", just as PK'ing, mount killing, reskilling and drylooting your corpse isn't "cool", however they are not exploiting anything. They might try it 20 or 30 times, and it would still not be agains the rules. This is exactly like waiting for you to open your house's door to stealth in. If you fall for it or don't take the proper precautions, bummer.

Also, I do not know how you can compare this to duping gold. In this instance, for them to get any benefit they NEED YOU to screw up. There is nothing in the system that will allow them to loot you if you do not screw up, thus their repeated attempts at trying to make you move where they wanted you to. I am also quite positive you would not be banned if you tried unsuccesfully to dupe, you might look like a fool wasting regs teleporting here and there, but I doubt any serious consequence would be brought upon you if unsuccesful (not that I endorse trying).

Yo ho yo ho where ever shall we roam. As PoD is still alive the seas are not safe. If you have a problem with pirates please i beg thee to make a army and strike us. But if ye scared jump in my pocket or stay off our waters! If you so called ex yew milita is angry start them back up and hunt us down. Or you could just keep your land lubin mouth shut or i will shoot a arrow down your mouth hole you scurvy dog. Here in pod we are not greifers or cheaters or scamers. you can ask the normal public and know that I my self am very nice to every one. have dont tons of no broker deals and every thing runs smooth. I bet you want the Militia to join... Unfortunately they would have nothing to do with a "Semi-RP" Pirate guild who does nothing but grief people off the server. Honestly, the GM's condoning these kinds of actions is insane considering the competition this server is about to have.... But I digress.

Even though theres been griefers in UO for 13 years and its still going strong, and griefers on UOSA for 3 years with a continuous flow of new players.

BUT

Leviathan was killed on a boat, so clearly the shard is doomed.

When is an exploit NOT part of current game mechanics? If the game mechanics allow it, then it can't be an exploit? In other words, if some one DOES figure out how to dupe gold/items, there won't be consequences? Because, since the game mechanics let them, then it's not an exploit?

I guess I'm wondering what constitutes an exploit. Because if it happens, it's because the game mechanics allowed it. Which could then imply there's no such thing as an exploit.

To me, gaming the mechanics like this WOULD constitute an exploit. They are circumventing boat security via a weakness in game mechanics.

UO/all game exploits are generally the use of some mechanic to benefit the exploiter in some way that is contrary to the intended functionality. Not all exploits are considered "game breaking" or even undesirable and are often either left within the game as is or used as inspiration for a new feature to be added.

In this case its not a weakness, its actually just a use of gates that was likely unintended with a group of creative players using it to enrich their experience. While you may not like this use of game mechanics, it does not actually make your boat any less secure than your house. You actively need to take an action for it to succeed - you can easily counter the tactic. It's a new layer to piracy/anti-piracy.

Looting boats/houses has always been done in UO and it has always required you to be smarter/quicker than the mark. Exploits for duping gold/items cannot be effectively countered without removing the bug that allows them, the economy would crumble if people could dupe gold or castle deeds. The ability to trick someone into letting them on your boat is significantly different. Additionally with this post more and more people will know how to avoid it and new tactics will need to be developed.

As long as I have been on these forums I have never seen panthor in SERIOUS MODE.

Do what I did and pay them 6k A WEEK.

Then they leave you alone, not like 6K is hard obtain.

If killing ppl that are on a ship is SOOOO evil and runs them off the server then they just need to go back to tram. maybe you even need to go back there as well.

We don't condone or not condone actions. This shard is built on accurate T2A mechanics; and nothing more. I see a lot of actions that turn my stomach in game, but it's not our place to intervene in player interaction, and we do not. I do feel that the comparison to stealthing into a house, is very appropriate here. As Kaivan mentioned, we have fixed inaccurate game-breaking exploits. Gold duping is game breaking, but we do not feel that commonly known and used teleport, and recall oddities rise to this level. These tricks were known to OSI, these were not disciplinable actions.
