Wasn't that a temporary "fix" to a unsolved problem?

Not really "grandfathered".

The best direct example I can give is this. On OSI Murderes were given lumps of coal for christmas. Then those lumps of coal were used to make coal ingots, and then coal colored armor.......

"Coal Armor refers to armor created from Coal, which is quite rare and thus generally considered valuable.

Coal was one of the gift items included in the 1997 "Naughty" Christmas Bag during Holiday 1997 awarded to negative-Karma players. Coal ingots were created by smelting the coal and some players were able to collect enough of these ingots to create sets of armor. GM marked armor made from coal ingots can be quite valuable.

Coal ingots are a slightly different shade of color than Shadow ingots. Shadow ingots have a slightly blueish tint, whereas the Coal ingots do not, and coal armor created from these ingots retain this distinctive color."

I remember hearing about this... I think BlackFoot was even buying up the coal here incase they would be able to be smelted.

I aquired 6 red and 3 white hats. I was able to sell 5 red hats for a good price, but decided to keep the whites for a few more days :?

I must also admit that I had the most fun in UO in a long time. Thievery was rampant everywhere, and in the Britain stables alone there were 4 macroer's with gift bags, but no hats lol

As the prices of hats skyrocketed, I became such a hat degenerate that I resorted to snooping nubs as soon as they spawned at the inn in Britain =(
