your bad is right. its not so much me lagging out, its just everyonce in a while the server just completely stops. like its saving. i also noticed in dungeons that i dont get eaten alive by the mobs when this happens. i didnt realize that even meant something. im on cable modem, and it happens to me every time i play. not just at peak internet hours, which i thought would be the problem with my cable modem.

also, i noticed that it gets extremely bad when you did that last vesper invasion. i was going to check it out, but the hiccups were so frequent that i just logged instead. i dont have this on any of the other servers that i play on either.

I, as well as the people I play with, also have these lag issues.

It was HORRIBLE that day.

I just assumed Derrick felt it too. I couldn't imagine why he kept going with the event. I was frozen for 30-40 seconds at a time while the world around me continued.

If it was just my connection with the server, I wouldn't be able to see NPC's walking around while I'm completely frozen. Everything would freeze.

This is very strange, see this one indicates a router problem, with the packets in only one direction, while other people mention everything freezing.

I'm franticly looking into this, but no I was running all over at the Vesper invasion and didn't have any problems.

I haven't had much lag at all. At chums house thing the other day the server did crash, but that bug was found and fixed and has nothing to do with anything.

Usually when I hear someone bitch about lag I just assume its an excuse of theirs for why they died, heh.

That timeout was to your ISP's gateway, other than that this looks like an excelent tracert.

I've been sending in the reports, but very few of them indicate any problems, and only people who are having trouble of course have sent them, so it's pretty frustrating.

With the number of people that we have playing (200+ unique ips in peak hours), only about 5% or less have reported problems. It's also worth mentioning that sometimes, during the day, as I don't do this often at peak hour, my actions can sometimes cause a momentary global freeze when I'm compressing backups for instance. The reports of lag are somewhat varied in behavior as well. That I'm continuing to look into this is all I can really say at this point.

From Slade's tracert:

Code: Select all

10 115 ms 159 ms 48 ms te7-2.dsr01.dllstx3.theplanet.com [70.87.253.10]
I have little knowledge of how datacenters (or w/e) work but this seems to be the spot where several of us are getting weird values back from periodically (Myself, Slade, Choppa at least). In the e-mail I sent you, it took 9-10 tracerts to get a couple times where that one stood out which seems to be akin to how the lag spikes occur.

Try an ingame poll perhaps, asking how many people experience the lag. Not everyone necessarily reports it.

They work like electricity or water. If any spot between you and the server is clogged, slow, damage, down, etc then you'll get slower results. Like with Electricty, if a minor line goes down you won't notice since it'll route a different way...but if a major line or a power plant went down, you'd be screwed while anyone not using that major line would have zero lag.

I was referring moreso to the possibility of getting it fixed. Whether or not a few tracerts from us will be enough for whoever owns the troublesome 'network point' to take a serious look at the traffic that's going through there.

In this specific example with periodic spikes that don't vary much in severity, I don't think it's a 'clogged tube' issue because this would affect all of their services and they'd probably have gotten enough complaints about it in the last month to have worked it out..

Thanks for clearing that up Derrick and Mazer..
BUT unfortunately it IS still getting worse for me for some damn reason.. MUCH worse..
I've never pinged above 200 (which is a VERY bad day to begin with)
But now check it:
Image

ALSO i've been noticing the difference in the WAYS that I lag: First it was a brief pause in the game: in which the monsters would appear to have NOT moved while I lagged.
Now I have the "packet loss" problem (I think) where I would pause as usual but instead of the people around me also staying still they'd appear a few screens away.. I guess it's just me I dunno but I literally got a new computer a few weeks ago and all was fine until about a week and a half ago. D:

The problem seems to be that the clogged tube only happens for brief periods and most of the users in the data center wouldn't even notice it. I've currently got a 5 page trouble ticket open with the datacenter and they are stilll trying to find the root of the problem, which hopefully they will find soon, if not we will be moving.

this is the latest:

We are currently investigating this issue. At this time i am unable to reproduce this issue. The times on the traces i have performed look good and i am not showing any packet loss. I will continue to run these test throughout out the day to see what turns up.

We are positive this is a network issue and not a hardware issue based on the proccess monitoring I've done on the server and the tracert's that have been submitted.
