LOL. Who the hell are these nubs. This shard specifically simulates a certain era. If you don't like it then go to another one.

I think, what most of the critics are forgetting about is the fact that this shard was created, built up, and maintained to emulate OSI servers towards the end of the Second Age. Specifically November 99, if I remember right. The staff here has brought those lost game mechanics back to us almost perfectly.

Most of the players here (including myself) joined this server looking for exactly that. Seeking the good with the bad. Now, I'll admit it. There are a few aspects that I would love to see changed. Sure, I would like to see more high end spawns so it would be easier for me to farm gold. And even though I don't have a tamer, I'd like to be able to use the stables now and then. I'd like my dexxer to be more successful (really just not good at pvp in general). But these "warts" are just part of the game. Thats the way it was. And that is the goal of the server. Theres no reason to make it any easier to farm gold. There are many ways to make a living in the Second Age. Most just provo these hotspots because its pretty much all profit. And there are other nice provo areas than Destard and Fire. I in fact dont go to Fire. Too difficult to get home if I die lol.

Anyway like others and myself stated, the goal of this shard is to emulate this ere. Tha name itself clearly gives this clue as well as the information on the website. If you dont want to play during this era, why are you here?

jmal01 wrote:I second what arrowface said this server is boring!

Now dont get me wrong its the best free shard by a mile but the others go to far with ther neon rubbish but this shard goe's to far the other way and is well boring.

1)I mean to start with runebooks are not blessed whats the point in them not being blessed what a pointless mech of the game.
They were not blessed when they were introduced, and why would you want them blessed? Carry a bank rune and 2 extra recall regs...it'll take you all of 5 seconds and 24 additional mana to achieve the same result as carrying a runebook.
jmal01 wrote:2) This shard has a big stable problem.
Has been addressed before, stable slots are nont terribly hard to find, just gotta be patient. If you contact me on IRC, I can hook you up with a couple.
jmal01 wrote:3) You cant recall to the lost lands WHY??? era accurate is lame excuse
Same response as 1), yes you can: recall to an entrance, take 2 steps, recall to a bank on the other side, and you're in the lost lands. Balance: 5 seconds more, 2 recall regs more, 24 mana more, same result. (plus it's era accurate, and it's not lame because it is the goal of this shard)
jmal01 wrote:3) I created a bard because i love provocation and thanks to this shard because 100.00 skill means 100% chance of success, but on this shard there is just no high end monsters to provoc.

e.g UOR had 2 ice orge lords to provoc here there is nothing just destard and fire temple I mean ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Have you tried Theratan keep? Ophidian Lair? Hythloth lvl 4?
jmal01 wrote:4) My lockpicker can now do lvl4 dungeon chests but even these are crap, when i used to play on OSI i would get 700+ gold out of them and there were loads dotted about. Here your lucky to find one in a dungeon and these are normally always picked BORING.

This server is good and as I said its the best free server but it just needs that little extra. After all where would the world be if there was no change.

 The UOR era was better but without Trammel.
Can't really comment on the lockpicking issue, as I never lockpicked in era, but apparently there has been extensive research that proves that lvl 4 chests were this scarce, and had the loot they have here in era.

The trouble with picking and choosing, is that if you start to do that, we'll end up like IPY3, customizing things. Here you know what you get. Derrick's idea is not to create a new UO, but to recreate and era of UO.

If runebooks were blessed there'd be less of a market for them. That's a good reason for them not being blessed.

Oh and another thing. It's UO. Nothing should be blessed except your dagger and your spellbook.

So true!! If you are even moderately skilled, there is no situation you cannot get out of with resourcefulness and these 2 items.

no doubt..if worst came to worst I'd get ressed in glow, throw the dagger in between the teeth and run around the island for 20 minutes gathering regs and shearing sheep. After that I'd be in balrons or tvalley 2 hours away from grinding enough to get a small house.

Hmmm... The only obvious responses were basically ,"GTFO, I'm a little kid, I cannot construct sentences, and why don't you go to a trammel server if you don't like it." Ok, sure... but I won't, because that's not what the point of my post was. By the way, the world needs less people like you and more people that reply with constructive criticism.

I understand that this server was built around 99', that is perfectly OK. The small things that I was trying to point out is that while this is fun while it lasted(back in 99), on a drawn out time scale it becomes very boring and monotonous. Everyone's build and tactics are completely predictable, and if you even dare to PVP you have to fit into the movement of hally mages. There is absolutely no individuality. If you're not a fan boy you'll see right through this in a couple of weeks time.

The staff is excellent at doing what they do here without a doubt. The creators of UO would take pride in this server if they didn't sell out to EA games. However I bet they would also attempt to balance out some of the mechanics along the way to add some individuality and flavor. This version is heavily leaning towards only one certain build. While you may say that there are other builds that exist.... sure. But you put the best Hally Mage versus the best dexxer and you'll see the result. What's the fun in that?

I don't mind constructive criticism. But...
arrowface wrote:it's crap! Be honest with yourselves guys, this age is shit!
arrowface wrote:How monotonous is that??
arrowface wrote:How do you guys not find this boring??
...is not constructive.

There are plenty of posts where people discuss things that might need to be changed in a civilized manner, and sometimes, changes are made because of it. Calling it "shit" and "crap" and implying that it's unbelievable that those of us who have been playing here for years don't "find this boring" isn't going to get you anywhere.

I'll have a conversation about what mechanics you enjoy and what mechanics I enjoy all day long, but I'm not going to sit here and listen to someone who just came around tell me that I'm wrong for enjoying something.

How do I not find this boring? Maybe this is what I like. Hopefully some day, you'll realize that not everyone has the exact same interests as you. Until then, expect to keep pissing people off with your posts. If I was the only person taking this stance I'd rethink my position, but I'd say that the posts above show that I'm not alone.

a well played dexer with pots and decent ar/wep can easily wear down a mage.

Firstly, calling something shit, vile, piss poor, IS criticism. Secondly, you had many opportunities to respond to anything else in the post I wrote besides what offended YOU personally it seems. Can't take the heat? As far as telling me to go play another game? I'm way ahead of you on that one... there are many options. Especially with this join or die attitude that these players have.

Wahwahwah all you want but if you don't see it now you'll realize it in the near future, love ;) Then you'll remember this post whether you like it or not and remember what i said about monotonous gameplay.

Yes, certainly. Constructive? Most definitely not.

Many great players here have come and gone over the years. Some played for years, quit, and came back. mostly due to RL obligations. Some have been here from the beginning, active the whole time. Its obviously not too monotonous to maintain a well established playerbase. I wouldn't worry about the future too much.
