One of a kind implies that there are no others. I have seen felix do what you are doing. He just eventually stopped when he got rich. You, on the other hand are just addicted to selling crap. You will never be happy with owning anything.Arsen wrote:you and joshua lee aswell.GuardianKnight wrote:Yeah. You and Lazarith are the same.Arsen wrote:all about trade forums son.

I farmed 18 hours a day for about 5 months sold all the gems and junk magic armor/weapons to the vendor.I then made a treasure hunter and proceeded to do all the t maps i found which took around a month at 18 hours a day.
Also the loot table is somehow fucked up the vanquishing broadsword drops about 5k times more often then any other vanquishing in the game.

Exactly!
I think that runs in the family for him however.

I became rich through questionable means including but not limited to:
stealing
tinker box kills
house looting
being paid for permits for misc things
Being paid to target players for death/grief
shutting down an afk mining operation (dagon)
and honest ways like:
running a leet yew gate vendor
trammel collecting
Tmaps
inheriting a vast track of land from a reputable retired broker

Re: How you made your millions
To the OP: you can make millions almost any way you like. I made at least 1 million with each of:
- farming monsters
- sheep farming (then turning the wool into bandages and selling them)
- PKing
- treasure-hunting (maps)
- lockpicking dungeon chests
- buying up real estate in an area, then deeding the small houses and putting a larger one in their place
- selling holiday gift items over the years
You can easily make the money you need to afford any interests you have in the game, EXCEPT rares. If you want to get some cool rares, you generally need the kind of cash you get by buying/selling rares (and/or befriending people who have rares and quit). And you've got to put a lot of effort into buying low and selling high.
My interests were in cool housing, good weapons/armor, and exploring the world. Since I had no interest in rares, I was easily able to do everything else I wanted - all of my characters had +25 vanq weapons, invulnerable armor, all the supplies I could ever need for adventuring, and they all lived together happily in a nice castle with a bridge to the tower next door.
If I was interested in rares, I think I could have traded all of that for a poison elemental statue and a piece of a sandstone table. Just didn't seem worth it to me.

Balrons carry magic broadswords 100% of the time (and, in my experience at least, I think they're always Force and above).TheEttinKing wrote:Also the loot table is somehow fucked up the vanquishing broadsword drops about 5k times more often then any other vanquishing in the game.

Not quite, but it's so easy to get them that it seems that way.
I have also done mostly 3 things for gold:
- Crafted: Mining made me enough to buy my first house, then my 2nd and 3rd, and finally a tower, where I lived happily for a long time (this was old fashioned mining with a "Use Last Item" hotkey, and that's it, I was not as razor saavy as I am now). Tailoring made me enough to buy a set of bridged twin towers where I lived for a while also, and just recently moved out of. This complemented with holding a blacksmith vendor for a while and a bulk reg vendor for what felt like forever, as I never afk bought my regs. I sheep farmed for a short time also, but that got boring fast, now I only shear all the sheep/pick all the cotton I come across, and that still makes me a ton of cloth I could sell if needed.
- PvM: Barding, T-Mapping and Taming made me enough to buy some of the best real estate in the land: 1 Vesper Beach Tower, 1 Vesper Beach Patio, 1 West Vesper L-Shape, and 4 smalls, all in the same area. I have also donated some so the guild could buy all the other property we hold.
- Lockpicking: GMed lockpicking and made 300k in the process, not counting gems/scrolls/magic items.
- Holiday Items and rares: I have bought/sold a boatload of holiday items and rares. I buy holiday items low and sell high. (ie. I sold my holiday bells on Christmas day for 100k ea, and 400k for a white one, netting me 600k, which I then used to buy the same bells a couple of weeks later for as little as 25k per. Needless to say, I have a rather large collection.) Same for 4th of July cloth, etc.
However, I never seem to be able to hold more than 400k or so in cash in my bank. I always find ways of investing/buying/giving away/loosing it, which is the fun part about making it!!

I'm a true American.
I borrowed 6m for an estate purchase. I'm still one million in debt but I don't think the person who loaned me that mil is coming back so I dunno. Now I've got probably 3/4mil and my keep and a couple smalls. Kinda downsized from the half a dozen smalls I used to have.

Re: How you made your millions
I've never been rich and don't really care. My account nearly four years old. I spend all my money on making new toons and the supplies to use on those toons. Whats so great about being rich? just make what you need and enjoy the game. you don't need a castle full of rares to have fun.
Re: How you made your millions
No one 'needs' any of this shit, but some people's game IS collecting rare pixels. The glory of UO is that the game is what YOU make of it, not the masses.

Re: How you made your millions
Started as a completely new player (no UO experience).
First character was GM'd by actually playing (even healing up to 80, I let serpents hit me on purpose on Fire Island)
My transition into bandages was purely accidental.
Someone was running by my only house at the time while I was hidden inside. He died just outside so I went and took all of his stuff thinking he will come back for it but he never did. The only thing that was worth anything (not much though) was a runebook with the locations to all the major sheep pens and cotton fields. The rest, as they say, is history
After accumulating money I got into the real-estate market and moved some properties, mostly towers.
Now that I have a decent supply of liquid assets I often buy out reagents and arrows from vendors and sell at a very modest increase. I should add that I never AFK bought anything because I am on this server to actually play the game and not just get rich by cheating or exploiting game mechanics. The only AFK I do is with monotonous skills such as anatomy, hiding, evaluate intelligence and so on.
After playing on and off for over a year I have about 3 million overall worth (counting real-estate at deed value only) but if I wanted to and had more time to play I would exploit the game and have probably over double that amount but if I did that I would quickly lose interest in the game and quit. I want to achieve what not many did back on the old pay servers; actually play the game until I have every type of character at 7GM and own at least one secluded castle on grass (yes it is good to dream
).
If you are serious and committed you can be a UO oligarch in less than a year as long as you have enough time to play.

Re: How you made your millions
Aside from PK'ing, Vendoring, Sheep Farming, Scamming, and House Looting...I think at one time or another i've made money just about every way possible. I would basically find a niche and just own it. I'd make my millions and then quit it. My problem is I tend to give it all away in one form or another. So then i'd have to find another niche. Rinse and repeat.
Unfortunately, i've given away more than i've ever made, so i'm constantly flirting with the poor house when it comes to liquid assets. This doesn't really bother me, though, as I can make money whenever I actually want to. My secret is to buy low and in bulk, then sell high and in comparatively small quantities avoiding the "bulk" discount. I also never ask someone what is obviously an unfair price. In order to be asking a fair price, though, you have to actually do your homework and know the going rates.
The best advice I can give anyone wanting to make money by business is to never scam someone on a business deal on any of your characters. It just takes one time to ruin your reputation. I've seen so many people do this. The thing is, if you have a decent price, you'll still get people to do business with you, but a lot of people will never do business with you again if they know you've scammed anyone at all. This removes a lot of the "demand" for your goods, in a sense. In the long run, you lose more than you'll ever gain and you'll find yourself doing other things to make money to supplement the income you lost from Nefarious business dealings.
