I've never received a PM from you regarding any pictures posted publicly that you would like removed. The only PM that you've ever sent to me was one that was in response to a PM I sent you almost a year and a half ago.Arsen wrote:kaivan iam still waiting to be able to delete private pictures.

As for editing old posts, some limitation will almost certainly stay in place in terms of how often a post can be edited, but I can see how this particular limitation is restricting. If I can get in contact with Derrick, I'll see whether he agrees, and what can be changed.

add a copywrite at the end of your forum posts and it's yours. just because you can copy someones book and put on a flash drive doesn't make it legal. most free book are authors that are dead and have been for a long time meaning they have no rights in repect to ip.Rose wrote:Blaise wrote:Or just let people who provide UGC (User Generated Content), own their content and leave it or take it as they see fit?
That, or just let everyone know that everything you do here now belongs to the staff. Perhaps people might think twice about putting forth so much effort to help, improve or grow a community through their services and contributions, knowing it is no longer theirs.
Oh wait....
How can one person be a specific owner of anything posted in a public domain such as this? Sure you can be the creator/author, but as soon as you post your work to the public you cease to be the sole owner of said content.
In a realm in which you can reproduce something unto infinity, everyone is a potential owner, especially if the content is free. I could have copied Telemon's sandal guide to a thumb stick, put it in my pocket if I so desire. It's the same as owning a free book.
Anyway, Blaise you seem to have turned into a passive aggressive UOSA forums troll/Telemon fanboy. Stop being a d!ck.

Claiming copyright on a forum based off of pirated software.......yeah, I don't know if you have any real legal grounds. If you made a real fuss, you'd probably just get this place shut down.

To my knowledge EA and Origin are aware of freeservers and have never taken legal action against them, as they do not operate the same and are a non-threat that does not exist to make profit from their game.GuardianKnight wrote:Claiming copyright on a forum based off of pirated software.......yeah, I don't know if you have any real legal grounds. I believe copyright/patent laws (and anything else IP based) to be one of the most destructive tools available to Capitalists from within the Tickle Trunk of Government creations.jimm1432 wrote:add a copywrite at the end of your forum posts and it's yours. just because you can copy someones book and put on a flash drive doesn't make it legal. most free book are authors that are dead and have been for a long time meaning they have no rights in repect to ip.Rose wrote:How can one person be a specific owner of anything posted in a public domain such as this? Whether it be a tangible or intangible creation, these laws usually serve those who are first in line at the patent office and severely punish everyone else involved.
We can look to history for some great examples: Eli Whitney, the so called creator of the Cotton Gin acquired a patent for this device some time after many hundreds of Cotton Gin's and Cotton Gin variations (that were not crafted by Whitney) were in use all around the country. After receiving this patent, Whitney and co did not make seedless cotton, they did not even want to create and sell Cotton Gin's to farmer's, instead they went all around the country to farmers who already owned Cotton Gin's and expected to take a cut of their cotton production.
Back then (late 1700's) it was a lot harder to take someones hard earned work just because you have a piece of paper that says you can. So after failing to steal a cut of farmers cotton, Whitney decided to start a litigation campaign against all these non compliant farmers.
Sound counter productive to the cotton industry yet?
So the good news is, Whitney and co actually had to start selling Cotton Gins in order to keep their business afloat, and to pay for the massive amount of legal fee's they were accumulating. A short time later, their business crumbled as they could not make enough profits to sue the farmers who used a Cotton Gin. What a historical LOL in my opinion.
Anyway, if this took place in 2012, after these patent/copyright laws have been refined, given a much greater force of law, and are generally accepted among the masses, Whitney would have cornered the Cotton market, crushed his competition, and effectively gained a monopoly on the distribution of Cotton. Which scenario would have worked best for the cotton industry and most benefit the average consumer of cotton? The answer should be obvious.
Ok, so that speech was more directed to a tangible good, hopefully the reader can draw a parallel to the world of the intangible. Otherwise I can go into that...
Eli Whitney was a dick.

I like this way better. Sure it is a pain in the ass, but now people are liable for what they post.
The main areas this hurts are trade forums and player run events.
Perhaps established players can get some restrictions lifted in their own threads only.
Its a tough one, that much is certain.
EDIT - A couple of weeks ago I asked Derrick to edit my main sales thread and he was very prompt to do so and quite pleasant about it.
Cheers

Well, that might be valid if editing was disabled completely. Right now you still have 48 hours to edit a post, which is ample time to correct any silly things said on a drunken/emotional night before.WiseOne wrote:I like this way better. I see 4 years of great forum activity, and one day abuse. I think the best thing to do is a weekly backup of the forums and reinstate editing capability to the fullest extent.
The War Z forums recently got hacked and they lost EVERYTHING. The mistake here was that the forum admin did not back up anything at all.
Back it up yo.
