Catskills, COP, yes. Me and some allied guild showed up at their tower once and had a 6 v. 15 or so and I don't think any of us died. Weren't the leaders mfred and nfred?

On the topic I remember for sure during some of t2a there was town magic damage and it was taken out at some point. I got the game after t2a so it couldn't have been before that I am thinking of.

Well, that's certainly a bug and needs to be fixed.

Actually, there was no spell damage in town until late 2000, when spell damage was enabled in town for factions. Spell damage was first removed in towns in late 1997, meaning that spell damage did not work in town during all of T2A.

I'm curious as to whether this no spell damage thing only effected player-on-player magic. During the period of time (pacific shard) when moonstones were dropping from monsters, but there was no UO:R/trammel yet (this was several months iirc): I would regularly gather a single set of FS regs and slay pack animals in the guardzone of Delucia. I can't recall if it worked on people or not though.

This would be consistent with the demo, which prevents spell damage in town only to humans, but allows spell damage to non-human creatures.

So before the Golden Era of Brittania we had the age of fire. During the age of fire, dark mages and pyromancers were tools of war and burned many great cities to the ground.

Yew Abbey exists due to the burning and sacking of Yew. It was built to house and protect the whole city if necessary.

In response to the magics, Lord Britain went to Merlin (Who's Lab SHOULD be in Lord Britain's castles, second floor right by the entry, not sure if its still there on Pacific shard, it was only accessible by logging off on something and getting pushed to second floor) and asked that he do something. Merlin then called for the hunt of fire, where adventurers went to all the dungeons of Brittania, and collected all the magical blood and elements they could find (Thus creating "necromancer" reagents which were consider a rarity after pre-T2A). With these reagents, Merlin went to each city, casting a spell to protect everything within in the city from magic, however, this came at a great cost to Merlins physical being, and diminished his strength greatly. He was at the last city he planned to protect, Buccaneer's den, when he was ambushed by Lord Blackthorns knights of the scorn, and has not been since. Many people dispute these facts, but it was well known Lord Blackthorn promoted the use of magic in war, and without the use magic, his ability to wage war in Brittania would be limited, after all, Lord Britain had the masses on his side.

And that is why there is magic protection in town, you can thank Lord Britain and Merlin or damn them.
You decide.
