I also second (or third,fourth..) that the coloured armor was available well into UO:R. People used to collect it, as was popular to wear while sitting around the bank. Same thing with various colored NPC cloth.
Horses, as I remember, always cost somewhere between 500 and 800gp for as long as I played, and it only changed from what I remember when that factions thing was added and EVERY faction raised the prices in town to a ridiculious amount. Jerks..
Snooping never was a noteriety issue, it was always just considered rude.

I could have sworn that the npc colored plate went out when the colored ore system went in. The only references I can find to this though are the recent stratics page for colored plate that says, "The colored plate system has been replaced with player craftable colored plate. All plate of the colors shown below has been changed into plain iron plate." Also, in the '99 version of the same page, one of the contributors quotes the developers as saying that the colored plate system will go out when they introduce colored ore. The patch notes don't seen to mark when it was no longer available.
Anyone remember what happened when you smelted colored plate from vendors? Did the ingots retain the color or did they just give you iron ingots back?

I recall the special npc colored plate going out when colored ore was introduced... I typically always considered this a pre-t2a feature personally.

Anything bought from a vendor should smelt to 1 iron ingot, I think that's the case here.

My last purchase of UO was third dawn and I know for a fact that I would buy this armor off the smiths all the time, this goes along with other's memories as well..but there seem to be the same amount of people saying the opposite... I'll look into this tonight.

I dont remember this armor in T2A. Smelting if it was even introduced during T2A I know it wasnt ehre at the start. Early smelting only returned iron ingots, no matter the color of the item. Did smelting ever return colored ingots?

Horses were around 760. You could buy a smoke style armor from vendors, which wasn't an ingot color.

Definitely remember snooping not being penalized by turning gray. I used to walk around snooping people for fun only to see how their packs were organized and what they were carrying around.
