I often joke that I'm the poorest shard vet. I don't own a tamer and I don't idoc. I'm actually a testament to the fact that you can compete and have fun without owning mills in rares or watching dragons breath fire at gazers 24/7. I don't care about trammel so the fact that a handful of people hoard all of it bothers me not at all. That's the way it's always been. You're all salty that you recently had a shot to own some yourselves and came up short.

Regardless, a shard wipe or item deletion would always be the worst idea ever. Like in any economy, it isn't fairness or equality that matter. It's the promise of stability. It's the precise reason that Marxism sounds fine on paper and has historically produced the worst results. People don't want a clean slate. They want to know that their time and hard work will result in tangible and stable wealth - generally even though that wealth may not be as great as that possessed by others. It's still mine. Its what I've earned or been blessed enough to own, and there's no danger that I'll lose it save for by my will or stupidity.

What you described above is "the importance of the Rule of Law" HAyak gives that a whole chapter in "Road to Serfdom". Funny, Derrick has been a consistent applier of the "rule of law" (Very little arbitrary action) on this shard and because of it, the shard has flourished.

Disheartening.

I enjoy the favorable odds that I can engage anyone on any topic and come away looking like a genius, but mostly it's just depressing.

Galendae you should understand what socialism IS before slapping that label on American politicians. Look it up, and study it, and then you'll understand that Obama and even the most liberal congressfolk (or whoever you're referring to) are far from being socialist.

If we had all the time in the world, of course it would be fun. Even more fun would be a new map However, wiping the shard isn't a good idea. Think of those who started maybe just a few months ago, finally got that house they wanted... now they have to do it again. Or those who aren't GM Moneymakers who finally have something larger, and then have to do it all again. I think it will turn away more people than it attracts.

Other than the "fresh start" aspect, there are two obvious reasons to start over. Razor and housing, neither of which are era-accurate.

Make a sane policy, of one house per account and ban razor.

Everyone running around on three accounts is ridiculous too. Limit it to one or two.

Derrek already said when I started playing here in 2010, that no chars, no items, no houses would be wipe.....ever....I expect him to die of old age before this place is allowed to fall...

The only server? Really? I know of multiple UO servers out there with way more clients on than dead-UOSA's shameful '200 client' count.
