The post was edited later... I think the original price morgan referenced was 2.7... But yea, for someone who just started today, lumberjacking is way faster to get going than mining.

I started gathering wood for carpentry training and decided to take orders for others to make a little extra gold
Some people never got back to me and left me holding a ton of the stuff
So lets move on...2 gp

selling off unwanted inventory for less than MSRP should not be considered anything but commomplace in 2015...in any dimension

I've mined and lumberjacked. I prefer mining, but I can certainly see why some would prefer lumberjacking. You get 10 boards per hit where miners get 2 ingots per hit. You can get more hits in quick succession with mining which balances it out somewhat. I've traded 10K of my ingots for anywhere between 20-30K boards depending on how desperate I was for boards. I think they each have their own appeal. Nowadays I'm lazy. I only mine what I need, and buy the boards. Mainly because it's harder to find the colored ingots than it is boards.
