I hate the fact that you have to have a horse in order to compete with anything. That's the one drawback of the game in my opinion. Sure, it makes traveling easier but I much liked the days where everyone fought on foot. It was just more fun to be red fighting on foot with no stat loss (although, I don't think you can have reds here with no stat loss, there would be too much chaos).ironfistmax wrote:Also keep in mind back then hardly anyone had finished characters. A lot of people also hunted without a horse. So it was a lot easier to make the stealth template and be successful at it back then. If you make a stealth pk on this shard and have no horse you are asking for stat loss.
Don't get me wrong though. I think a stealth pk template is probably one of the most fun to play. But you are seriously hindering yourself if you go this route.
Just imagine this for instance. You have 40 murders on your stealth pk. You decide to go to Shame and take out another victim. You drop your horse outside the entrance and stealth your way inside. You see a player killing an air elemental, you attack, but as soon as you attack, a gate opens and another few players run in. They start to attack you. You run outside to your horse but a random orc killed it. You try to spam recall but one player is spamming magic arrow and another is whacking you with his kryss. You die, they turn in your bounty, you get stat loss. Now only if you were on a horse :/
That's what I'm talking about. Assasin doesn't just mean a poisoning potion monkeyStorm wrote:There was a group of us on Divinity that were all stealth mages. It was quite fun to all get on a UOAM server together, zoom all the way in and stealth up to our victims and drop simultaneously.

This all seems right, but it leaves quite a problem: There really isn't any plausible way to make a legitimate pk on this shard.silex wrote:I think a Stealth template could have worked in the old days, but it won't work here. Not because this shard isn't accurate, but because players have adapted so much in the past 10 years. Let's face it, UO isn't new stuff. Everyone knows the massive benefits a horse brings you. In addition, everyone knows the secret to making money now, so everyone can easilly afford one. To make things further worse for the stealth PK, everyone and their grandma has a cable modem now. It literally takes 1-2 seconds to get off screen while on horseback. Stealth also probably means you can't fit Wrestling into your template, which makes it even more dangerous.
Unfortunate as it is, Tracking can be entirely replaced (and even enhanced) by having moderate game knowledge and access to a decent rune library. Use of My.UOSA can further eliminate the need for Tracking. Players are habitual and often hunt the same areas. If you see them on, you probably know where they are hunting (or what is in their hunting rotation as they gate their demon train around). Tracking would have greater use in the woods, but again, thanks to that 10 year gap of player adaptation, you can run around in the forest for hours and not see a soul. Also, UOSA has quite a bit lower population than what was on the old shards. Hell, you could rack up hundreds of kills over time just running around the forests surrounding Britain.
Hiding is a tough call. It can work, but you will have to give up something valuable in order to take it. Only for the very patient, and even then it's a big gamble...

Sure, but there isn't a way to have a red character that will be able to both kill effectively and avoid dying effectively. Blue pk or gank squads are the only way, I fear.alatar wrote:if you know how to pvp theres about a billion ways to pk someone..
