Special moves...lumberacking...inscription...really opened up the game for myriad char types rather than the traditional 'mage or dexxer'....plus factions were sweet. But yea, trammel...

Ahh, in my opinion the special moves were also a huge flaw in the game, but to each their own.

I would hope that the responses that I have provided haven't been robotic in nature (although Derrick and I are the only staff members to post in this thread).

In that vein, I really have tried to provide the clear facts for why I, and hopefully the rest of the staff, hold the opinions that we hold on these matters (although most staff members have not actually given an opinion so I can't really say). However, despite any opinion, it really does come down to the practicalities of whether something can be done about the issue (or at least reasonably so) and there has been little change in the realities that surround these issues. That may be the source of some of the mechanical feeling of our responses comes from; because there simply isn't any cure all way to deal with these issues.

So, if I played since T2A, but continued playing through UO:R, I'm not a UO veteran? You have to be joking.

The PvP system was changed - precasting was removed and you'd see variation in mage templates that went further than different weapon skills. There were plenty of dexer types. Even shield mages. UO:R was a long era, and PvP was patched many times, so it's split up into "publishes". Publish 16 killed PvP in UO, with the introduction of powerscrolls - which allowed your skills up to 120, and stats the ability to 125, I think. A few weeks (months?) later, AoS was released.. at that point it was obvious OSI was never going to learn from their mistakes, and UO was an officially dead game. I quit the day after AoS release - it was a sad day.

Though I totally believe if UO:R came first, and in April 2000, T2A was released with trammel, we'd be trying to replicate UO:R mechanics. Faust would be on this forum talking about how bad T2A was and how skill-less the PvP was.

So did I, my final log off was right after I saw someone with a colored weapon with a bunch of numerical values on it.
