I thought MultiUO could get you banned. Even if it couldn't unattended macroing could. So if anything there should be no unattended macroing at all.

I run easyUO, krrios, a few heal/hally scripts, and some hack programs i found that are undetectable. Just hope derrick doesn't find out...oh wait

Point in being, it's not a social mechanic. I don't care what happens. I like my UO. I run automated scripts so it would be a set back but, it would fix some of the era issues that pop up.

Trying to replicate the 'feeling' of t2a is a very different project than replicating the mechanics.

You've just proved my point. You described what would in fact be social engineering when that is nothing at all like what we're suggesting

No one here is calling for social engineering, we are not saying "more people played crafters during the era, we should offer incentives for people to play crafters so it's more like the era". We're in no way trying to encourage or force players to play the game like it was played. But instead calling for the game to have the same features and limitations that it did during the era and allow the players to play an accurate version of the game as they see fit.

What we're suggesting is for the server to be run similarly to the shards of the era. For a greater effort to be made to model this server after the era, which is, after all, the intent and goal for this server.

Yes I realize that events varied from shard to shard. Chessy may have had an orc invasion here, whereas Atlantic had a ratman invasion there, but clearly, there was no system in place to run multiple events a day nonstop, nor were there scripts and mechanics in place for the game to auto generate said events (mechanics issue?).

The entire argument of "social engineering" is used to justify things that are obviously inaccurate through technicality and labeling so that we can appeal to players who do not want accuracy.

Mutliclienting was only done legally through multiple computers. Here we have every user running 3 clients with ease and completely abusing things like ghosting and botting because "well you could do it with MultiUO, an illegal program..."

AFK macroing was the complete opposite of the idea of a game based around difficult skillgain and advancement through continual gameplay and was in fact illegal, yet here we have everyone macroing all they want because "well, it's questionable how well it was really enforced..."

Events were only held on occasion at best, completely unannounced, they were themed/story-line based and held in the game world. Yet here we have a system in place for autogenerating bagball, capture the flag, survival game, last man standing, and others because "well the events differed a bit from shard to shard..."

It's quite obvious here that we are offering lax policies and features that differ entirely from the era in order to appeal to the modern freeshard community while claiming accuracy, all because some have played rules-lawyer and somehow justified their presence here.

What sets this server from the others is that it boasts era accuracy before all else. People come here because they want an accurate server, then we completely change major aspects of the game and try to justify it. Either try to make this shard accurate or give up the pretense and quit pretending like this is how the era was.

Your arguing for a change of administrative policies. Anything that was a 'ban-able offense' was an administrative policy (wether it using 3rd party apps, pr behaving a certain way in game such as afk macroing or racism). You are also trying to compare a 24/7 hour professional/paid staff to one of volunteers who have an hour here and there. There are limitations on storyline events and un-automated events that they can squeeze into their time frames while still attempting to fix bugs and help players in game. Automated events offer an option for them to still have in game content while not having to monitor the world 24/7.

So resource macroing should be allowed, as well as any other razor trick or outside exploit that could get you banned? I'm missing your point blackfoot. Sounds like what you're saying is the only thing that needs changed is the actual game mechanics and not anything else that influences the game from another source, as long as it's semi-era accurate?

An example of the point I was trying to make:

how do you propose changing the mechanics of UOSA to make afk macroing illegal?

Ahh... okay I get it now. It's not that you're opposed to the idea it's implementing it. Well that is a question I can't really answer. Let me think on it while I'm at work.

aye its a difficult proposition. Trying to accomplish that while at the same time keeping the mechanics accurate would be a difficult task.

afk macroing is last on the list ... the policies in place are "feasible" for this shard as resources (staff) are scarce.

unless you are referring to ghosting or archer bots ... there is really no way to stop afk macroing on a shard unless there is just an over abundance of staff, and even then would require complete dedication for people to just patrol the world instead of playing

The rules regarding afk macroing are fine, as far as anything but resource gathering being acceptable.

The bigger issue is defining policies for ghosting, which more or less invovles multi-clienting, and archer bots, which I guess would fall under both categories.

And as far as events are concerned (since that was the original topic of this post anyways) I couldn't of said it any better than benny.

Even then the best you can do for multi-cienting is cut back from 3 to 2 and maybe remove extra clients all together if it goes well. I actually changed my vote from keep events to remove events, because it's not accurate. I don't want to see them go but I would accept it.

too bad the fear of a failing shard will never permit any of these things
