taking away something players enjoyed?
Re: taking away something players enjoyed?
I say this with all due respect to the players on this shard with excellent dueling skills, but to be honest, do the best Duelers really deserve ultra expensive compensation for their skills if other aspects of the game have no similar reward?
I am in favor of events, but I think if this glaring era inaccuracy is not only lauded and held up highly(amazingly) but outright defended by the same people that wag the finger and tell me to go to hell when I suggest that not all inaccuracies are bad- there's other ones that would be much more productive and useful to the shard as a whole rather than pandering to a group that is commonly no larger than 15-20 out of the 450~ unique IP's on at a time.
Seems like a very big inaccuracy for a very small sample of the populace with very large reward and zero drawbacks.
Am I the only person who sees this as a problem for this reason and not simply because it's inaccurate?
Lets also consider that only the pvp crowd would know who these great duelers are if the events didn't announce the winner- in the real world(just like UO was) if you don't watch a particular sport then said players are irrelevant to you. Is there a mining contest in which I gain shard wide fame for being a great miner? Until I started getting into PvP back on atlantic I had no clue who the best pvpers were. The only ones I had known about were ones that did other things for the shard besides showing up for a tournament- i.e. Preying on newbs very often, challenging bounty hunters, events, etc.
Instead, we kind of have a highschool football mentality going on with regard to the events.

Ive held 2v2 tournaments. You would not be able to attack the players in the arena. There was aline of sight blocking and eq is unreachable. Therefor, the 2v2 held was in trammel. Players holding events, is trammel. 1v1, 2v2 duels are trammel. Buying items from npcs is trammel. Dying clothing with a dye tub is trammel. Collecting/Trading rare items is trammel. Using potions is trammel. Running off screen is trammel. Giving murder counts to people is trammel.Psilo wrote: I'd rather deal with whatver population that plays than to log on during events times for a 5 minute after-event bucs fight.
Tournaments and events are lame, they are trammel. You can't argue that, lol. It's in trammel, don't you get it?
TRAMMEL. If they allow me to attack you and Sandro while you guys 2v2 then I'll be all for events. Until then I am glad the events are being cleaned up so all the carebears gotta come out for some real UO pvp.
Dont you get it?? Uo is trammel, unless you are doing wahtever it is that Psilo is doing at any given moment. AIf you disagree with any of this than you love trammel and support trammel and should go back to trammel.

Not true, I could possibly stealth in there, run in there on an alt character, one of the participants could open a gate, I probably do have a rune to the courtyard of wherever you are dueling, there are so many possible ways of getting inside. Dueling on the roof of your castle is not "omg trammel". There is a huge difference here.BlackFoot wrote:Ive held 2v2 tournaments. You would not be able to attack the players in the arena. No one is argueing that these mini games dont have custom rule sets...
Theres no reason why these mini games should not have their own rulesets. Thats what they are.. mini games inside UO. You could turn them into rp storylines pretty easily. You could fancy them up anyhow you like in that sense.
'Lord British is holding an ongoing l33t wizard pvp contest that will be awarding silver to champions for the next year!' Now you have an ongoing seer/gm/admin run event. Do the same for bagball, survival ctf, etc
Arguing that some how these mini games are an entire different facet of uo that didnt exist during t2a so you can attempt to throw it under the era accuracy bus is bogus.

Re: taking away something players enjoyed?
this entire discussion is just treading water. make an in-game poll and let the players decide.

Thanks. My major concern is not so much era accuracy as it is what I stated above. I'm honestly surprised that the biggest problem people have with these events is accuracy.Izual wrote:Some good points, Ollie

Well I think the main concern with accuracy, is that once you start changing something, and losing that accuracy, you start to not only lose quality, which is major, but that quality is tied with certain aspects that make Ultima Online unique. I think it becomes very predictable and uninteresting when everything is on a 'clock' so to speak.Ollie wrote:I'm honestly surprised that the biggest problem people have with these events is accuracy.

Re: taking away something players enjoyed?
Theres are lots of solutions to the problems you stated above, with the no risk/reward aspect.
They can be solved without the complete removal of these games.
remove the global spam that events are opening/taking place/winners/scores.
change the entry costs/reward ratio.

Lord British needs the strongest and best bag ballers to slay a massive dragon! He needs all bag ballers to bag ball for the next month to work up their strength (as we know the bag is so heavy!) so they can slay this fiend!BlackFoot wrote:Clearly not. There is a separate ruleset for mini games inside Brit. This ruleset is not the same rule set as trammel.Iced Earth wrote:Blackfoot the comparison of super restrictive ruleset Events and super restrictive Trammel ruleset as to who can attack who, what can happen when, and no fear of losing any of your stuff is very much ON the mark.
The bagball ruleset is exactly a preemptive rule set that would be happening if it ran inside a players house. Except the game forces bag drops and resets that players cannot do on their own.
The large scale event with minax last night had a separate ruleset not that of normal game play and you don't hear people crying trammel 24/7.
Odd that the same people in this thread were at that event not crying trammel but enjoying it.
If all we have to do to make it ok is add an rp element that is pretty easy to do.
More bagball.
Thats a good rp storyline right? hehe
