Agreed!Teriyl wrote:It's good to hear you guys are at least thinking about ways to bring some new content in to the server while preserving era accuracy.
You can go into their up/downvote history, and undo any -1 or +1 you created. I sometimes downvote people who downvote me and later go back and upvote them. It's like a weird surprise that no one cares about.Menkaure wrote:Edit: Completely off topic but, how the heck did all the -1s woody gave me over the past few moths just turn into +1s? I was so close to despicable, too!
Can you provide some examples of what you're talking about? This is a general statement and doesn't provide anything concrete to comment on.Menkaure wrote:Kaivan, your replies for each one of brules' arguments was just spinning things into your own truth, when in reality so many of those things you tried to compare have absolutely no connection to each other whatsoever.
Assuming that events were actively held by GMs, they aren't a mechanic. I don't know how this has been lost in the discussion, but I've only been addressing the issue of events as they previously existed, because that was the context of this thread. But before you get excited, the old event system - even if it were actively hosted by GMs - fails on an entirely different level due to the fact that it interrupts the normal game mechanics in a very big way.Menkaure wrote:How do you even consider some of those things not mechanics but events are?
You said the gms are "not a mechanic" so then by that logic, if the event is not automated and actively hosted by a gm then its not considered a mechanic either? Come on man...
I really don't know how many ways I can explain this.Menkaure wrote:Whatever, I get you don't want events back, but don't try to insult the intelligence by spinning your reasoning to make it look like you are so justified in your quest.
Silver is silver, there was no silver back then.
Whether there were "items" that dropped sometimes from special mobs or not, there was no silver system, no matter how you spin it dude.

For each OSI server, there were special items that existed from quests that did not exist on other servers. For example, if you played on the Great Lakes server, a special axe existed with the name Pain Giver, that would randomly cast certain effects when you hit your victim. For anyone that didn't play on that server, no such item existed. Thus, for each server, the items that existed due to special events were unique to that server. As a result, we have no way to be accurate to all servers, and even if it was possible to do so, the existence of those items is not a function of the mechanics - but of events. On UOSA, we parallel that behavior via silver, and since the way that silver gets on the server is from events (I'm now talking about events in the general sense, not in the context of the old event system), which aren't a mechanic, silver fills the role of a special GM provided item quite adequately, and is a non-issue with respect to the mechanics, which is what we're trying to replicate. The rest of the "system" which is entirely a matter of interacting with us, is also not a mechanic - because interacting with GMs cannot rationally be seen as a mechanic. Thus, the result is that our use of silver to provide special items is squarely classified as not a mechanic, regardless of whether a specific item we provide did or didn't exist on OSI servers.
I've now explained this at least 4 times in this thread, and I'm not going to do it again. If you choose to ignore or brush off this explanation, that's your prerogative, but the answer will remain the same regarding the old event system. It's gone and it won't be coming back. What we put in its place will not be automated, nor will it resemble the events from the original system either.
Azheman has special relationships with many men, blaming staff alone won't fix your frustrations.GtH wrote:you guys should honestly be asking tg, they are the ones with special relationships with GM's, they are the ones with the influence of the shard.
why would tg not want automated and recorded tournaments and events?
