Yar.....I want to play some CTF with the ships! Can I pay in gold to host a player run CTF or any other event? People could pay x amount to run the automated tourney system, CTF, FFA, etc. Gold sink? Fun? Win? Pirate? Yar

When all of my friends played here, I was going to run events using my castles + keeps + towers + mini-villages and those I had access to for events HC. Now it's completely out of the question... I'd say message Abyz and see what he can do. I'll friend him to whatever kind of properties he needs, if he needs.

prize pools can easily be started. Get an event schedule, maybe changing locations, and what not and people will start coming out of the woodwork.

Haha no one wants to duel in your towers/castles. The events were great, grief free, and you didn't have to spend 45 minutes setting up your pack beforehand or worrying about looting it post battle.

Now that Kaivan has the shard under his grip - it will never happen. You all need to realise that......he is unflinching in his purist views and will never change his mind.
Over.
Done.
Finito.
Move on or move to another shard like everyone else.

Re: bring em back
I run a small business too. What I can say is, I've built a new site for UOSA that is going to hopefully be rolled out in the near future. This should provide a refreshed look for UOSA and allow the site to be more accessible for capturing new traffic. Beyond that, I provided Derrick (long before I became staff) "SEO best practices" for the old site and current site, which has helped us naturally rank on Google. We don't spend donated dollars on AdWords because we honestly don't have enough free dollars to do a solid campaign (it's also not as cut and dry as people would like you to believe it is)JBURNS wrote: I own a small buisness. Promoting the buisness is not on my customers...its on me and my staff. Marketing and promotion, among other things, is the sole responsibility of staff. I can't even say they are working on the server..I haven't seen an update in almost 3 months. And that update was 3 minor bug fixes. Why would I put my own personal time and effort if it's just going to fall on deaf ears and a bad case of nonchalance. Trying to stay respectful and constructive here; I honestly don't know what the staff are working on or doing...but I can say I am not seeing any results. Maybe more transparency or some sort of timeline or topics they are working on would help. The image portrayed by staff, at least to me, is they are there to answer any pages like a counselor, not to promote or do anything substantial.
If you honestly think all Staff does is answer page, you need to take a good look around. This year we've had numerous in-game activities, a handful of patches, a stronger presence and success rate at catching cheaters (Speedhacks, EUO, AFK gatherers)
I've looked at our website's data and I can point to a major factor in the raw data. Below is a search trend chart from Google: Now, compare that chart to Second Age's population (guesstimate it since we can't pull up a long archival data sheet like that) and you'll see a strong correlation. Next, look at the shards that have popped up in the last 18 months and you'll find that the numbers actually make more sense.
All we can do is patch bugs, stay on top of in-game problems (pages/cheaters), develop content driven events (plenty have happened this year), and work on external factors.
Have you not been to this page yet? http://www.uosecondage.com/vote (be it some of the sites are dated, but like I said, a new site is on the way)JBURNS wrote: How about staff makes it so the world can vote and see Secondage online?? ....
.... Being on any one of those sites will increase traffic to SecondAge at very little effort to the staff.
All I can say is that we are actively working on things. People can sit on the forums and make threads like this all day long and it won't impact the free time we have to do work on UOSA. If the community would spend time promoting the shard instead of making threads like this, you'd probably see a much different situation happen after just a few months. New players want to hear from actual players if a shard is good - real player testimonials are much more valuable. They don't want to hear it from the guys who run it.

Re: bring em back
Amen. And all you peeps bitching about the shard and criticizing the mods, who don't contribute a dime to this site, can suck it. Pony up $5 a month, at least. I mean, just for the sake of your own dignity.

Well said Boomland.
Re: bring em back
Boomland,
Thank you for taking the time to write a well thought out response. You addressed a few things that, for me, were an issue. We are all on the same side and I meant no disrespect but from a player's perspective it is hard to play on a server with low population. I love SecondAge and the community and I will continue to be a part of it as long as its here. I am also aware of the voting page and have since voted every day. The last time I tried to vote (February maybe?) I just got a page not found error. I know you guys are aware of the population issues and there is no reason why we can't work together towards a resolution..my frustration came from not seeing any effort from the staff to address the population concerns. A come kill the monsters type of event once a month is fun and everything but falls far short of what we need. You are the first staff member to my knowledge that actually said, "This what I am doing, here is the data to back it up." I am glad to see something on the chopping block and it makes sense. Your point about other servers opening and general interest declining seems accurate, now we just have to figure out a way to reach the maximum number of potential players. I am all for promoting the shard but how would we go about it? I only play on SA and therefore only know SA players. Besides voting, any ideas on how to promote?

Hey Brules, since your done, finito, and over with this shard, why don't you give me your keep that you always seem to refresh?

He obviously wasn't referring to himself (even if it seems that way)sircharlestha3rd wrote:Hey Brules, since your done, finito, and over with this shard, why don't you give me your keep that you always seem to refresh?
And honestly the consistent blame on one person from staff isn't going to get them to cater the shard to their specific needs. Everyone needs to find a way to be helpful to the community with what we got. The "put this in the game or your shard will die" looks like the crazy ragged shmuck on the street yelling to traffic that the world is going to end. Ya...he's going to be right...eventually. But you think anyone stops and listens to the premise of his unfounded logic?
More constructive criticism less whining would be helpful. Or just let your pixels fall already.
