So I'm guessing that your banks on your characters were cleaned out as well as your friends house?SoulStealer A.O wrote:Just a heads up because I totally did this to myself. After not playing a freeserver for over a year, I stared playing here again 2 weeks ago off and on. I don't know why, I was searching the net and found this PRET2A server called UO Genesis. I logged in, logged out 25 seconds later. Stupid me, not thinking, I used the same info as my UOSA account. Yesterday, I logged off for about an hour and in the process I managed to get my stuff and my buddys stuff jacked. Lucky him for letting me use his place ;p
I heard the owner of UOgenesis is a player on this server, which is kind of shitty regardless how retarded I am. I also didn't have my account registered to my IP/Email, not sure why I guess I was just lazy.. Well this dude went a head a registered it to his.
So make sure your accont is registered and don't use the same password and username anywhere else, unless you forget like me, then you can feel just as stupid as I do.
Or was it just the house?

This thread is absurd. The staff of that shard are among the most professional staff that I have ever come across. I admire their work.
Re: Don't get hacked, like me.
Since this hasn't been locked, I would like to clear this up. Derrick has told me that there is zero evidence supporting the initial claim and Soul seems to have retracted it anyways. I would never risk the countless months/years I put into both these shards for anything, however it is always a good idea to use different login information for just about everything you do.
I apologise for requesting a ban which was clearly out of line, I had a long day yesterday and this set me off.

I'm thinking Soul probably registered on a forum somewhere using his same ingame login/password; much more easier to retrieve as a forum admin.

another way of looking at this, and other tragedy in uo is
that you just learned a valuable lesson in life.
it would be 1000x worse to fall victim to a scam like this
and lose your main email account, and say banking info,
or shopping site with saved CC info.
live and learn i guess.
thanks for sharing so other people don't fall victim though.

Re: Don't get hacked, like me.
Just to clarify, this was not a result of logging into another shard. This was a misunderstanding. I'm not sure what happened, if Soul was hacked or looted, BUT it was NOT a result of him logging into another shard with his user name and password from here.ehafh wrote:another way of looking at this, and other tragedy in uo is

As stated in other posts, it is still a very good idea to use your user name and password ANYWHERE else though.

Re: Don't get hacked, like me.
It is very good advice to try to use a different password for every network you go to, although this isn't really advice I follow myself all the time.
The majority of operating freeshards, including UO:Genesis seem very reputable. The real concern with account phishing isn't the real freeshards, it's someone who just throws up a shard at home on his own PC expressly for the purpose of phishing for account names, which is the report we received last week, and the reason we put the warning about account names/passes in the MOTD.
I have worked some with the owners of Genesis , and while I would not let that relationship prevent be from fully researching any concerns such as the ones raised in the OP, I am very confident after looking into this that if there was an account breach (which is not indicated by logs), it did not come from logging into another freeshard.
However I understand the fear that inspired the initial post, and would encourage anyone who has a concern about their account security to let me know immediately. While account security is the responsibility of the player, we will immediately lock out any account that is suspected of being hijacked pending a further investigation.
We do have a very simple official policy of Account Security here: http://forum.uosecondage.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=703

Yeah, apparently it wasn't them. So my appology for comming so blunt towards the admins of uo.genesis.
I may of used the User/Name pw on a forum but it's not likley. I must of been hacked by some other means.

Re: Don't get hacked, like me.
Ive been looking for a place that has the information on "how to change your pw" and other things related to account management ,etc. But, I cant seem to find a page/post with that information. I look, wrong, places, yes? No? Either way, can someone post/link that information?
Just thinking it'd prolly be beneficial to post something like that at the end of a post such as this.
Also, I was wondering this... So, say on your account you once entered in your email address and received your email with your auth code, but you never actually auth'd the account. Will you continue to receive the notifications when you login? Or does it go away? It says I imagine the first one... right? Since it says that the auth code is only good till restart...
My Questions!!! HAVE QUESTION MARKS!!!
