It wasn't changed to 1 house until after T2A, which is what this shard is based on.

Era accuracy=One house Per one Character

So 15. I know people who did have more than one account on OSI shards. So there is no 5 was the max limit.

As for smalls there are plenty of places spend 5 minutes and you'll find plenty. Save up some gold, there are tons of houses for sale. 2-stories dont even sell for deed plus 10k if they're in a crappy place.

Im sitting at 1.5 months and have a keep(bought placed), 2-story(bought placed) and a large brick(placed myself).

Keep looking for spots theres plenty out there.
It was very rare for anyone to pay for more than one account on OSI. Only the really hardcore addicts had more than one account.

So you have to take that into account when setting this policy. Since we are aloud to have 3 accounts here there has to be a limit to housing thats more consistent to how it was in T2A.

do we know how many people have more than 5 houses now?

i'd much rather it be 1 house per account

I think one is way to far drastic. I have a keep, a large brick and a 2-story. They each have their own uses. The keep stores most of my items, the roof is used for sheep that can never be killed, the main areas are dueling areas. The large brick is a meeting house and my murders "stand here and statloss go away room" The two story has a bedroom. for my old Main, and it is conveniently placed a 30 second run from brit.

you have 3 houses not 15.

I don't see where the 5 house limit or even 1 per account would hurt you

I'll poke my head above the parapet - I've got fourteen houses (2 L-shapes, 12 smalls). All but one is in regular use and almost all are decorated, and only four of them are private locked buildings.

This is an aspect of UO I could never realisticly have enjoyed on an OSI server - but while the possibility for 15 houses is apparently era-accurate, and there is no housing space shortage here except for in people's imaginations (have a proper run around the lands sometime), is this really any problem at all?

Any semi-serious player can acquire pretty much any style of house upto and including towers within at most a few months of starting here if they want to. Even Keeps and castles are available with a bit more time and/or effort. I'd suggest that means the only housing 'problem' is that (like most other items here) it's too cheap and easy to get whatever you want.
