I didn't read all of this, but Para in tourneys I think is something worth of discussion.
I don't plan to do any coding to eliminate pre-casting a particular spell in any particular event or setting.
Para, on or off would be something I'd be interested in finalizing though.

In my opinion....
Allow para, allow unlimited uses of a trapped pouch.
Part of being in a fight is being prepared, but requiring people to trap tons of pouches before each tourney while requiring only one potion or one reg or one arrow is silly. Like the poison/cure potion debate, having para but allowing trapped pouches adds another dynamic to the tourney since a person could use it in case their foe is unprepared...or they could buy themselves a second or two depending on how clumsy/slow reflexes their opponent has. To just flat out remove it just removes a twist on combat and further dumbs it down to the same 3 combos.
Then again, im also pro poison spell + cure potion (but no others) for the same reason. But thats another debate.
UO is about options. Everyone just focuses on damage but they don't focus on the various action/counter actions. Why poison someone with a cure potion? Because it forces them to stop and use the cure potion. Easy? Yeah. Does it take skill? Not really... but its the dance of the options that makes combat fun...at least for me.

I agree that the more "dynamics" that are in the tournament, then the more interesting they are to watch.
One of the big reasons we have free use at all is so that people who fight 5 or 7 matches in a row with no break between don't run out of "stuff" and one of the reasons I've been against para is that I just don't expect people to bring 50 trapped pouches to a tourney, or expect them to be re trapping their pouches during it.
I think this is a far suggestion, although this will likely have to be applied to all trap types, since as mentioned previously, people may use dart traps

i think that if you were to play tournys on a different character other than your role playing character that is purposly handicapped you wouldnt have all these harsh feelings towards they way tournys are set up now.

You think wrong ^_^ I use to roll with a mage and I had the same outlook on the tournaments. They are the same every time and boring to watch.
Edit: To be more clear...I find mage boring because its 1...2...3...dump. Not to mention I can stand anywhere and deal sure fire damage. I find the dexxer more fun because I have to think fast to account for misses, nothing is sure fire, and im at a disadvantage so its more of a challenge.

The edit was more about mage's in general, not specifically duels.
Duels are fake, ive always found them fake. They make rules so that people can rule out what they don't like or have trouble with. It dumbs down the combat, in my opinion. Its merely a way for people to try and claim they are the best while not actually even having a 'real' fight.

I posted my opinion in this thread, not an argument. Plus, this is a discussion forum. If you don't want to discuss or see discussion, don't come here.

Not really, I wouldn't mind seeing the tournaments be based around field combat more and rigid rules less, it would make them more fun for me. Course, it won't happen because there are more mages who don't want dexxers having cure potions because they know they'll get whomped ^_^

I have read through the back and fourth here...
Blackfoot. Here is the point i think you are missing.
You have to have a tank to compete in the tourney. Healing is nerfed, no cure pots means your aids are basically worthless against a good opp, no poisoned weps, and a very small place to run. How is this "how it was in t2a"??? It isn’t at all...
All these things slant the tourney entirely towards mages/tanks. even no magics prob slant towards mages as a dexer in invuln with a vanq is probably more damaging than a vanq hally/kat? Not sure...
Im not saying tourneys are wrong or should be changed but to compete you need to be the same 6x as everyone else and pick between swords and mace.
There is no variety and to some no fun in that. People seem to think that winning these tourney means they are the best at PvP... in fact, all it means is you are really good at doing the same repetitive tasks because of limited strategies being used against you.
By the tourney being promoted as a PvP event all classes should be able to participate and be on even ground... But they cant.
I think that is the point... the whole thing is slanted towards mage/tanks... its not a PvP event.... its a mage/tank event and all the winners should be known for is being good at pulling off the same combo's and getting lucky with a killshot-lightning...
Dont get me wrong... im not trying to say it doesn’t take skill(and there are some really skilled PvP'ers in these)... But it is skill based off rules that arnt T2A... which i think is contradictory to your last post.
