After reading all these pages it looks like the implement is almost 100% unanimous in favor for it.
Brings value back to the game.

One thing that people probably wouldn't like is the fact that pre-casting didn't actually work on Siege. There were other fixes applied as well, including escort limitations and the like, all at the start of the server in July 99.

Lol, that makes it that much better for me

Though I wouldn't be opposed to picking and choosing. I mean, if we can't have the proper number of characters per account (without a shard wipe) then its not a far stretch to also say precasting is left in.
I guess I find it an intriguing topic but I dont' really expect it to go anywhere. Much like the previous idea of a wipe/restart with fewer chars/accounts.

Go outside of guards and get DP'd by a pk? .....you might die.

Just an FYI: Reds in town and statloss being taken out happened RIGHT before UO:R went into full swing.

Id love to find a more accurate description of siege rules. The one i linked is too new and diluted with trammy stuff.

in bumping this 3d,i have a question for the staff:
under what circumstances siege could be implemented?
a-if the mayority of the population agrees with it
b-if shard will die to give her new life
c-siege will remain a dream and wont be implemented, ever
d-others
just to know if it is legit to keep hoping.

Siege will not be implemented here. The staff has said a bazillion times that they aren't here to please the players. Their only goal is era accuracy.

I am really interested by this discussion. I can't say I've had any experience with SP, I think I tried it out once and got scared and stopped.
But I feel braver now.
So, just a shot in the dark.. has anyone considered hosting this themselves?

Actually this is not strictly true. Some people may have been forced to try to collect reagents but probably only until they got their feet under the table, as it were.
BiH always bought their regs from town. I know this because I was the person responsible for doing it! It was very expensive, but this was a very hard core server. Also you must remember that when you owned a faction town you could add faction merchants and reduce (or increase) prices. BiH always set prices as low as we could in order to help players, but some other faction controlling guilds would set the price as high as possible, or somewhere in between, in order to increase faction silver.
We had to farm our own leather, mine our own ingots or more usually I used my GM lockpicker to pull money from the many chests along with weapons and armour. Anything metal that was not a very good piece was simply melted down as was the armour of our slain enemies, to be reused to create GM armour and weapons for the guild. You couldn't sell the things you pulled out of the chests or dropped from mobs, so melting it down was its only use. Also there was none of this silly stepping back and opening the chest, or opening it with telekinesis. You had to untrap it. So there were not that many chest pickers around. In my best week I pulled 1 million gold from chests and my favoured spot was Destard. Remember that this was just the gold. You couldn't sell anything that was in the chest. So 1 million gold was quite impressive
It was HARD. The reason BiH moved there was because we were sick of people we were attacking (we are an anti-PK guild) just being able to recall away from the fight. On Siege this could never happen because the recall spell did not exist and you could not mark a rune in a dungeon or cast gate in a dungeon. It made for much more interesting PvP.
When the shard was wiped, we started again and built a town which completely filled the area North of Trinsic between the trees and the swamp. We did this by hard work and dedication. We recruited only the most dedicated players and weeded out most undesireables but insisting that ALL gold and property was transferred to the guild. In return, the member was given everything they could possibly need, including somewhere to live with their own personal storage. When we left the game I gave buildings to their "owners" if they wanted to stay and continue on SP. We also gave them resources. The funny thing was we always insisted that when a player joined BiH they gave all their assets and these would never be returned. Consequently when we announced that we were leaving UO for DAoC, a couple of players (Rash! Wolf!) left "stealing" their houses which were pretty tiddly little things. The ones that wanted to stay were given Towers and Keeps and the like! Hahahaha! YOU MISSED OUT LOSERS!!! hehehehe. We had a castle too which cost me 3 million gold. That's just deed price. I sold that on eBay and the bugger reversed the payment on me. Next day it was in the hands of one of our enemies - Casimir of the guild JD who denied everything
Early on, BiH, led by Mahja, me and the other two founders (one of whom is here on UOSA), created a set of rules for consensual PvP rather than PKing. Some great alliances were formed and those not conforming to the consensual PvP rules were hunted down to submission. For some of these it was welcomed, for others it was a war of attrition. We ground them down. With our huge resources built buy a dedicated, hard working team, we would take their armour and weapons to be melted down for re-use, their gold, reagents, everything. Horses were killed. Eventually they almost all succumbed and signed up for the rule set which we and the other guilds had created.
This was consensual PvP. Players would not be griefed. Would not be PKd. Mounts would not be killed unless used for combat.
If I can find the documents laid down by Mahja I will post them here, but during our time on Siege any reasonable person adhered to them. The rest were fair game for the massive alliances.
This did not stop PvP of course. It simply all but put an end to random PKing. We still hade HUGE fights but by consent.

Seems crazy on SP. Defeats the who object. My guild had left before then. #
Those early days of SP were amazing times.

Great post, Fireball. Siege was a different kind of animal and you really brought some great memories back. I'll always be on the lookout for a RunUO server that gives an honest attempt to replicate, or even pay homage to the ruleset. I don't have really high hopes at this point, but we can always dream and I think what the staff on UOSA has done here is proof that it is possible if folks are dedicated enough.
