ok you really want the best build for thief mage? here it is.

magery
eval

resist
stealing
snooping
macing (can be altered to wrestling)

-utilize the snoop to find items, hiding is not needed as you will use invis items. You need to know how steal works for one- Understand some things you're gonna fail like 50/50 i.e: heavy xbow and war hammers. If this is the case or just say you wanna randomly steal from someone you can achieve this back to back. YES! Back to back. Hold stealing cursor until you would be able to use the skill again as if you targeted. Target then use skill and target again. Ok well some ppl didn't know that so. .
-macing- I honestly say macing because you have dmging wands that are all considered macing along with heal wands and this makes a thief almost impossible to kill, you only become offensive on dexers from the get go or someone who've you've jacked silk from.
Macing will give you the 50% evade chance when any macing wep is equipped. It's faster to cast gheal from a wand then the spell so collect those wands. Along with fireball and lightning from gnarled staves you'll be doing about 5 to 10 dmg hits with melee just random and with 25 dex mind you because you want the 100 int. Pop on a mage hat when you fight a dexer and feeble him and watch him melt to your mindblast. 115 int vs 80 int is still dmg and cannot be reflected. Anyhow that's why I pick macing. But you have to be willing to run with a lot of extras. I use up to 3 differnt invis items and gheal wands and most are use by type as well. dmg wands are awesome with explosion pots.

wrestling > mace if your going to play a eval thief mage have fun healing with 0 wrestling against anyone who knows how to time hits to interrupt you oh and btw yes i have a macer tankmage understand the stave / wand item concept fairly well
and i also have the above template as one of my stealing characters just with wrestling and i have changed that character multiple times hell he has had gm resist twice

ya but gheal from a wand heals faster than a gheal spell always and forever and being able to steal then instant gheal wand urself is just ftw, never losing the 50% evasion with said wand/staff equipped

If you plan on dropping wrestling for macing thats the better way to go
It's not a killer, it's a pickpocket.
*you have to have at least 80 anatomy to GM healing so you'd drop it later

I wouldn't recommend this. Parry isn't that effective and it interferes with casting spells and if you are sitting there getting hit a lot you aren't playing a thief well.

I would recommend that if you want to play a pure thief (i.e., steal from people) make the stealth-thief template on the stealing wiki entry. From there, you can tinker with it as you see fit. You might look at changing it to one of Matron de Winter's templates, which tend to be the best templates if you are experienced and well-equipped.

We aren't talking townies here though and if you are just a nab and grabber no it's not a good temp a stealth build is better but really a slow painful tedious affair for oppurtunists or morphers. You have a free hand for pots, and because they will get frustrated with your attack lasts they will switch to a kat or could be a dexxer anyway. The boost to AR is great regardless if you think parry sucks which in my opinion doesn't.
I think it's better just to rush up and be like I am a thief what up? To nab everything you have to endure alot of getting hit.

Saying it interferes with spellcasting is laughable, tanks don't always carry their hallys ...durp But again you cant drink pots with a hally either...if you could maybe tanks would rely on hallies alone If you can pvp you can play a parry thief flat out. Remember you can pre cast and arm a sheild just like any other weapon. IF you take a big hit though you have higher AR with GM parry and the hit got around the parry take a step and heal no prob.

If there is one eternal rule of designing a character for UOSA, it is this: Do not use any template provided by archaicsubrosa. The man is a virtual encyclopedia of bizarre and ineffective templates.

Okay I will list some other thief builds I like...in a compilation

!1.) Mage Thief...

Mage, Wrestling, Hiding, Snooping, Stealing,Resist, Wrestling
There is no real reason to have eval in my opinion...unless you want to be a noteriety thief targeting flagged people

2.) The Mummy
Healing, Wrestling, Magery 90, Resist 80, Meditation 80,snooping 90,anatomy 60, Stealing
Healing on the run with bandages and wands in succession makes stopping for potions and spells to heal unnecessary and makes a healthy retreat viable if not to hasten persuit on your target. Even if it isn't tremendous damage healed, it will help cut down on charges used.

3.) Bard thief...
Music, Provoke, Snoop, Steal, Magery, Meditation, Wrestling
This is good when you are farming spots other people are farming or just for fun to grief dungeons by training up monsters and nabbing their gold. Bards are hardly understood to be thiefs and if you want to downplay your role as a rogue in order to draw close to others when they are looting their kills to steal their recall runes or whatever so that you could soon bring in your PK or even nab gold from the spawn they are engaging in at the time it could almost be done inconspicuously until they are in full realization of your true occupation.

4.) Dexxer thief...
Fencing, Tactics, Anatomy 80 ,Healing, Magery 60, Resist 80, Snooping, Stealing 80
Made for PVP more then quick loots in order to try to pop pouches, retrieve recall runes and regs, or nab other advantages your opponent may have in their packs. Snooping rather then Stealing is GMed so you can open their packs easily to set last target in melee. You could choose macing, but fencing makes for a better chance at interrupt.

5.) Urban Outcast
Begging,Lockpicking 80,Remove Trap 60, Detect Hidden 60, Snooping, Stealing, Hiding, Stealth
Using a pack animal for your bank when criminally flagged, you can just make rounds through the cities begging every NPC opening every chest and making attempts to steal from player characters. A very affordable gimmick temp to make. Something to do when you are bored and just want to hang around town.

6.) a slime
Stealth 80, Hide, Magery,Meditation 80,Snooping 80,Stealing,Wrestling, Taming 60....
nothing like being named a slime while being morphed into a slime with a bunch of tamed slimes guarding you in tow. They do very nasty damage to high end weapons

My list can go on...there is no real right way to make a character you just have to understand its strengths and weaknesses, taking advantage of preconceived notions etc, but most of all have fun with it. I love unusual builds and have found that when confronted with them most people are unsure on how to respond...if at all in some cases. Expect the unexpected.

So if a Character amped on pots and spells comes at you with 105 (85) strength, 80 (60) Dex, and 90 (80) intel
Who has the ability to cast offensively, heal with bandages, and cuts you to ribbons with a kryss in a temp like

Fencing
Tactics
Anatomy 80
Healing
Magery
Resist 80
Meditation 60
Evaluating Intelligence 80

As a public character the temp looks gimped, but in all reality when its supped up it's very deadly...I call it a Juicer...you know like a roid rager, perfect for recalling right into battle

Resist lets you stick in the fight and rob them while you attack the big money items are at graveyard not town
