Why is there a lack of GMs?
Re: Why is there a lack of GMs?
How about giving a reliable player temporary insta-kill powers. They could be time limited to the duration of the event and abuse is easy to report and would result in a ban (from future powers) and would cause virtually no long term negative effects. Just a thought.

Derrick was mostly right about his assersions of my questioning.
But I had this idea in the back of my head when I made this thread....
How about first by linking forum karma/fame state to in-game karma/fame state and have a system in which when someone has a perfect record (no strikes against them in-game or forum wise) and a very high "state" as well, they automatically gain authority over the things which can let them make events (basically become a Seer). On the flip side, a single strike against them (by anyone at all, no matter what the state) will remove said position, which means that it can be griefed or manipulated; but if a single person stands up to them, its over. Thus allowing the community as a collective to properly assert control over it. Of course that person who voted them down probably have to be known or announced to have done that act in some global fasion, but I think it provides a way of definate collective agreeance concerning who is trustworthy and who is not.
Thoughts?

That would be abused in so many ways. It would not be feasible.rwuser wrote:Derrick was mostly right about his assersions of my questioning.

Re: Why is there a lack of GMs?
Indeed, just like someone might abuse Seer or GM status, or whatever really.
The difference is that *anyone* can revoke it at any time with any intent.
This basically forces two extremes, perfection of playing with others and a very solid personal character or a control-freakish maniac who is able to manipulate everyone on the shard to his will in order to assert his sense of order.
From my experience id say the former is much more likely then the latter and even if the latter were possible and it happened, it would only take 1 or two ignorant or knowledgeable persons to stop the entirety of such a constructed machine.
The important aspect of this is that if such persons were possible to have on the shard, it would greatly add to the richness and experience had here, one way or the other.
PS: It would also allow the community to form self-governing mechanisms for such activity, maybe even periodically removing people every week on its own accord for safety (like the 4 year term, 2 max term thing you guys got in the USA). Use the old imagination I suppose.

Re: Why is there a lack of GMs?
It takes one click (well two) to cast a negative vote, and spoil the "perfection" you talk about. Pretty much everyone with some positive forum karma has at least one down vote. As Braden said, it would pretty much be a no go.

Re: Why is there a lack of GMs?
Terrible idea. As was previously stated, too easy to corrupt the system. If anything, the random occasional events are fine and if you don't think there are enough, how about you try playing the game instead. Only thing I would like to see changed is the reintroduction of the Counselor program or whatever it was called. When I hung out in irc all the time and new players came in I could just direct them to the Counselors, who would then show them the ropes or what have you. System isn't broke though, so let's not start throwing extraneous cogs in there with a horde of new GMs or super-powered players.rwuser wrote:Meh, i tried, lulz

Re: Why is there a lack of GMs?
Consider that many of us who play AND troll IRC, are in a way, de facto Counselors. We're always ready to help new players understand the basics of UOSA as well as support a fair amount of technical issues. I've been drinking but I can still say that the vast majority of support should be found within the community, not with a person that should technically have no interaction with the players and game, to the point of undue advantage.
