Like right now I got two guys sparring, and a third out doing some mining to fund their magery training when they are ready for it. Thats an inefficient use of time, because.
1. player characters gain combat skills slowly against player characters.
2. provoking on one character makes more than mining a few hours a week.
3. when your characters are sparring they cant also macro magery.
This shard is for T2A accuracy not for easy skill gains, there are other freeshards for that.
Your really doing this the hard way guy, you want me to send you the razor macros to do it easy?
Sure, but wipe the shard first otherwise you're just boning any new comers.
No prior changes are even comparable to this.
That is true, and I would prefer a wipe even though I'm just finishing up all my characters right now, but many people would not because they feel that they would be losing something they earned by playing the game.
At any rate it is not so huge a difference that a server wipe would be necessary, as it is still easy to macro your character in a short amount of time.
from what I gather the opposing voice for this change are the pvpers and when they say its will be difficult and discourageing for new players they are really refering to new PVP players because they cant jump on and start fighting
I'm seriously going to write a step by step guide to making a tank mage with 1 client if people keep on telling me its difficult.
I still dont get tired of making characters, the grind is fun, I never 7x my toons
I agree it is so much funner to have to work your characters, but people don't because macroing is so accessible and sort of the thing to do.
Overall this is a great idea, but I fear it will not be implemented because of the short sightedness of players.
It never ceases to amaze me how some people just vote and post without even reading past the OP.
I bet theres going to be like 5 posts after mine that talk about how this will make it to hard to make new characters.
BTW I advocate PVPING and GREIFING absolutely, but I am still for 1 account per IP.

I'm exactly like this myself, and I haven't really macroed anything other than some provoking to be able to get some initial starting cash. Although I would like to have the opportunity to macro some skills requiring 2 characters to interact when it comes to it. It feels strange to say, but in some sense it feels "unfair" that if this proposed change would be reality I wouldn't have the chance to raise my skills with this convenience like other players have had. I voted for the 2 client/IP limit myself, I wouldn't ever need more, although when I actively play, I only use 1 account anyways.

A few things to remember when voting. This wouldn't delete your old accounts, you'd just be limited to having one connected at a time. For those with family/roommates who play, you'd be allowed to get extra "connects" for your friends/family (just like it is now, except only 1 connection per extra person, not 3)

Hmm I was unaware that combat skills gained slower against humans. Is that how it was back then? Interesting.
Also one of the guys is macroing music while they hit each other. I literally just started today, so yea, if you wanna send me some razor macros please do lol.
Edit: Also, please dont put words into my mouth. I never said anything about easy skill gain or want of it. There was a poll about MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS PER IP. I am simply saying macroing with multiple characters makes this shard accessible to me, someone with limited play time. I never meant anything I said to sound like "Waah if you take this out Im going to quit", I dont want anything changed to suit my needs. I meant it more as it would make more sense to play somewhere else for ME PERSONALLY if it was single account per IP. I dont enjoy the low end of the UO experience, so getting past that as quickly and easy as possible is my goal when I start a UO shard.
Its kind of funny, really. I gave a simple opnion on something and you guys are drawing this out like Im hardcore defending that stance, when if you actually read the posts Im really simply defending myself against jabs and insults. This place is kinda crazy lol.

Also Roadkill, I was unaware that that topic was the discussion of connections per ip...seems to me like it was the limit of accounts that are able to be created per ip...

It should be no more than 2. Having 3 accounts online at once is basically 1) Inflating online numbers 2) Proof of botting.
One character hunting or something while One character macros off counts or something sure, but honestly training 2 characters versus each other WHILE you play is somewhat excessive.
Besides if anyone needs more its just as simple as [addipexception # or whatever. Not a big deal.
It is fairly obvious that many people bot mine or bot with multiple characters here and I have a hard time being convinced of someone's NEED for a 3rd account. Need to train a char but also have your alt on to burn counts off? Find a friend ffs. Hell, find an NPC they are faster anyways.
1 Account is too restrictive, 3 is too relaxed. It should be 2 accounts connected per IP.

I like this middle ground, I can live with 2 accounts but 3 is retardedly unnessisary.

Nobody wants to hear this, but I'll throw my opinion out there...
2 Account per IP, 1 Character per Account, no statloss, no recall, triple the cost of npc purchased items.

The goal of this shard is to re-create the t2a era not Siege Perilous. Both of these issues are something a shard must do before opening not a year later.

This is the same song I've been hearing since landing here...when 100 online was "OMFG NO WAY!". It's something that should have been dealt with a long time ago (due to popular player opinion) and it is something that can still be dealt with now!
Tamers, pvpers etc. have all been
forced to comepletely change their gameplay or the way it is achieved (for better or, and more often, worse). I don't see why the reason you posted should truly be an issue in this.

What is there not to understand? First, having a Siege Perilous ruleset means that an account can ONLY create one character. We would have thousands of accounts that have 5 characters if it went to that ruleset... That is beyond common sense son.
Secondly, you don't allow 3 accounts saying that it's okay to allow your player base to spend massive amount of time developing the account to say a year later "well you don't get those two accounts anymore too bad". That is simply not very smart at all.
I'm definitely for the 1 account per IP, but only if it's done right. At this point it's simply too late unless you grandfathered them knowing that this isn't a solution at all. There is no true way to limit a 1 account per IP unless you prefer to screw over those who actually play on a network.
I will say it again... This is something that you do BEFORE a shard opens up.

This is basically what I said on Page 1. No matter what you think on the issue, the goal is to have a growing server. When you fuck over your playerbase, even if its for a good reason, you always risk losing far more than you stand to gain even in the long term from the change. I'm sure every single decision, even the important ones, take this into account and this would be a huge change that would effect every single person playing this shard.
So yeah, we can go back and forth over and over on this issue, but the argument isn't reality. Reality is a small shard with 400 players all with 1, 2 and 3 accounts existing under a ruleset that for wrong or right, has been in place here for over a year. So like I said, on page 1, it is what it is, maybe one of you guys can go make your own server with your own perfected ruleset.
