Actually there were ways to gauge a pets progress, not that the enhancement to animal lore that told you exactly was imbalancing, but yes without bonding your pet could die to a moment of lag. The exact same fate a warrior's weapon might suffer as well.
That 5-10 minutes it took you to tame a new dragon are 5-10 minutes that you're in competition with other tamers, 5-10 minutes you can die to lag while taming, and 5-10 minutes for a PK to show up and attack you. A heck of a lot can start happening in those "5-10 minutes".
Personally, I've run off to tame a pet for "5-10 minutes" and ended up in a massive 4-way war.
One difference between tamers and smiths, is that tamers don't need customers. I also don't think bards have ever been more effective then tamers, especially when you consider that many pure pvm tamers are also bards.
And yes, I do think taming became a lot more popular after bonding went in. Most of the twinks who needed a dozen dragons simply found other ways to twink after that was cut down. I can't think of one person on Siege who quit because of the pet control limits, but plenty changed their playstyle.
All Kill?
Re: All Kill?
WTF are you talking about? These changes were put in place while Trammel was in existence.Corwin wrote:That 5-10 minutes it took you to tame a new dragon are 5-10 minutes that you're in competition with other tamers, 5-10 minutes you can die to lag while taming, and 5-10 minutes for a PK to show up and attack you. I'm going to give up this one I think. We're hypothetically arguing about what makes more money, what's imbalancing, etc. When the simple fact is... tamers have been allowed to have infinite pets, and they have been allowed to have bonded pets. And, last I checked, the game/economy didn't end. "Ruined" or "Shambles" is just people's way of expressing dissatisfaction with the fear that their current status may not remain as high in the future.
Re: All Kill?
I claim ignorance there. Like UOSA, Siege never got Trammel, and the only reason I ever played another shard after moving to Siege was to participate in factions on LS where pets simply were not a major factor because of the firepower of 50+ defenders on the same screen.Mikel123 wrote:WTF are you talking about? And no, I'm not talking about what makes more money or what's more imbalancing ... I'm talking about the simple and obvious fact that tamers should have to actually use the taming skill.
