The only way to address this issue (IMHO) is to have some sort of monthly upkeep deposit in the house of natural, unpurchasable resources. (Inggots, boards, leather, cloth) The bigger the house, the more resources needed.
If you had to go out and farm resources or buy them from another player, it would actually make keeping house more than logging in once a week.
This is a neat idea but would require players to always have a resource character and spend large amounts of time collecting resources. This would change the game and the economy in the game. Again, its a really neat idea but not really feasible.
Not at all... you could buy resources form another player...(just hopefully not npcs as the ability to buy to 999 cancels out any efforts)
I could see at months end (or whenever "taxes" were due) people bidding boards and inggots up over 20 gp per as they needed to keep their house fresh...
It would really put a demand on natural resources which i just dont see here right now.
Forever in UO newbs have mined and chopped for start up cash. I think on this server there are easier/less time consuming methods and I have noticed the drop in available resources.
Im sure if efforts went into the system it could include little or no effort to hold say a large and a small (pretty normal to expect a player to own 1 large and maybe a vendor house). But once you start to own multiple towers/castles/larges/etc. I think it would be a great idea to have to maintain them.
Its basically a luxory tax... hey, dont want to pay it? dont want to do anything besides PvP when you log in? Fine, deed it up and let someone who is willing to do it place there...

IMO, this server hasn't reached true T2A accuracy until there is offically no where to place a house.

I have placed and sold 3 other castles. Since you can only fit 400 stones/125 into a secure chest, this translates to about 40-50 weapons per chest. If you've done thousands of treasure maps, like me, you'll amass ridiculous amounts of vanq/power/invuln shit that you need almost 100 secures to store. However, most of my characters don't own a house.
I used to have small houses in lots of cool spots and found it not worth the effort of refreshing constantly just to try to sell the house for an inflated price in like a year. Therefore, I doubt alot of vet players even own more than 5 houses. If they do, its because most of them are small houses. I personally have seen hundreds of open house spots, even some next to guard lines. Housing will probably never be an issue here, since people quit the game or forget to refresh their houses all the time. The only property that will ever be sold for a markup will be keeps/castles, imo.
It's not just about running out of space, it's also about people taking up very nice spots... it's not exactly fair that one person owns 15 of the most coveted locations on the map(because you know 30 other people are doing it to). Just because you decided to give up on refreshing your 15 nice location houses doesn't mean anyone else did. 1 person having maybe... 3 sweet locations? That sounds normal. The whole point is era accuracy. Second... to simply be prepared for space issues while freeing up more of the nicer locations that are currently taken up and(most of which are not in use in any shape or form).
I mean... does the front page not tout era accuracy across the board if feasible?
This is a simple fix that should be nipped in the bud now so fewer players "feel screwed" when you do it later. Truth of the matter it should have started out with proper housing limits to begin with but I'm not one to live in the past.
P.S. Resource upkeep doesn't sound era accurate to me.

and what about housing right now is not era accurate?
as mentioned above....the only thing not accurate right now is not only can you place smalls but you can place larges and even XLs... At this point in t2a you were going to ebay for your house...

Or camping an IDOC.
And actually, I bought a large brick near wrong for like 3 million in duped gold, lol. Note: I didn't dupe it, a pk I often tagged along with offered it. I had suspicions but who would turn down 3 mill?

The fact that one person can own 15 houses across 3 accounts.... Have you read the thread?

I believe it was Jan 2000 when you coudn't have more than one house per account but if you had 5, like I did, then you were grandfathered.
My 5 were grandfathered also.

5 grandfathered? that sounds not so bad... 15 grandfathered sounds ridiculous.. if anything like this is put into effect that is.

new players always feel screwed by older players no matter what.
uosecondage has no 'vet rewards', but a real vet reward is being here early and getting a couple houses in places you always wanted to have a house. Older players having advantages over younger players is era accurate.

I assure you, you can have 15 houses in key locations of any shape and size.
You just need to farm more money.

I'm not sure why you are quoting me... I said in my initial post that I do not own a house or plan on owning one. Once again it is not era accurate to own 15 houses. I did not say it was impossible to place 15 houses or say that I was lacking money or was even about to place a house.

I wasn't arguing that at all, It's completely normal for vets to have more stuff than new players. I am saying that owning 15 placed houses is not accurate. It's also been discussed that friends refresh houses for people who don't even play anymore or for friends that "may" come back to play. One more time... 15 houses is unnecessary.
5 sounds legit as it is era accurate(assuming they were grandfathered).

Yes, it was...
Perhaps, this may not have been the case for you but it most certainly was accurate for those using multi UO with several accounts.

Once again accounts are free here so your argument isn't really valid. So no.. it was not. Only if they were grandfathered in obviously.
The point is every single person should not be able to have 15 houses. At the very least a cut-off should be placed for grandfathering. Why argue what could happen like that's the way everyone played? A very small percent of people overall owned 5 houses on an account. An even smaller percent owned 3 accounts with 5 houses on each account.
The bottom line is 15 houses is outrageous and should at least be cut-off up to this point.
Back in t2a I had 35 accounts and 5 houses on each character (all grandfathered), it's BS I have to deal with this 3 account limit.. I want my 105 houses please. This isn't era accurate because I don't have my 105 houses.

How about if you own more then a certain amount of houses your oldest houses decay faster or is that what grandfathered means?
