Thats the problem with trading rares....they have no actual set value. An empty bottle may be worth 20k to some people and others it may be worth less. I'd say you should keep rares outta the experiement but thats just me.Duke Jones wrote:Arkosh Kovasz wrote:He's a fisher, bound by the Angler's code to love boats in all thier forms!poogoblin wrote:I think you downgraded with that last trade, Duke.
oh jeez. i hope i didn't get downgraded.
I can only hope the next trade will be a bit more significant.

I think i will follow that policy for purposes of this experiment.Arkosh Kovasz wrote:Thats the problem with trading rares....they have no actual set value. The issue with that is then you'll only be trading house deeds or stacks of diamonds, because all items work that way.Duke Jones wrote:I think i will follow that policy for purposes of this experiment.Arkosh Kovasz wrote:Thats the problem with trading rares....they have no actual set value. UO uses a player-driven economy. Everything in it has a value according to how much the buyer wants it.

Pristiq does have a good point, because eventually yes, you will hit an endpoint where the most expensive non-rare type item (such as a castle deed, just for example) would be traded. IMO I call that a successful experiment, but it does limit your options.

Question Duke. Do the trades have to be one item for another item or can you trade multiple of something for whatever you have at the time?

Re: "One Red Apple" Social Bartering Experiment.
Good question.
Yes, multiple items and commodities of an item are accepted, within reason. Just don't offer multiple amounts of the object that was last traded.
Also the more trusted and established members of the forums could offer unique or imaginative services, just like some of the trades in One Red Paperclip.

Re: "One Red Apple" Social Bartering Experiment.
Ill trade you a 30 minute block of my time for the boat.
I will escort you to any dungeon of your choice for some hunting, do treasure maps, wander the landscape, play chess, whatever. I wont do dastardly deeds such as pk people for you however.
I have a tamer if you want to hit some of the bigger monsters to get some magic items or lootz.
I can do lvl 4 or less tmaps with you.
I can pvp decently and help teach you that if you want.
Guided tour of the museum if you want to know about some historical things that have happened here.
May be an oddball suggestion but its on the table.

Okay .....how is this going to work tho? He gives you his time and then you can offer what after the time is up? It's not like you're trading a boat for a tangible object that can be retraded.BlackFoot wrote:an hours hard for me to get straight in a row due to when i get online

Re: "One Red Apple" Social Bartering Experiment.
an hour of BlackFoots time if used properly can be worth well more then any boat IMHO

Re: "One Red Apple" Social Bartering Experiment.
Totally agree. But the format of this experiemt has been Item X traded for Item Y. Now depending on what he uses his time with Blackfoot to do, what will the trade fomat be? He can't trade the time Blackfoot spends with him.Chaos wrote:an hour of BlackFoots time if used properly can be worth well more then any boat IMHO
