Magic weapons give you the edge you need to kill an unarmored foe. It's not like everyone is using magic weapons, the people carrying them are usually the same people who carry 15 of each potion, pouches and are ready to fight lol.
And that is exactly the point. Anyone who is decent at pvp and equipped properly has to have magic weapons to compete. Magic weapons were definitely the exception, not the rule, back in the day.
Mages can do okay without magic weapons since they use spells for their damage. A GM weapon using dexer can win a fight, but your chances aren't that great since your only choice is point-click-follow and explo pots. Without a magic weapon you can't expect to kill a good mage on this shard. That was exactly the case in 1998-1999. Warriors got toasted back then, only good warriors won fights against good mages(and a good warrior always meant well-equipped including a decent magic weapon, pouches, all potions)
Keep in mind Divinity had inaccurate weapon damages. Those numbers never existed in an OSI era till this date, neither did the way the weapons hit and refreshed on Divinity. So people who come to UOSA from Divinity and Hybrid are definitely in for a surprise when they are playing a much more accurate 1999 T2A emulation.
There's still a huge market for GM weapons, it's not like they are useless. There are definitely more people carrying around GM weapons on UOSA than magic. GM smiths still make good money, that's why UOSA is an amazing shard.

The Divinity style players don't know what real UO is, unfortunately.

Its funny that the so called divinity style players on this server are the best.
Spanky wasn't even number one on divinity and he still rapes everyone 1v1.

All he does is spam the hally like everyone else, he has just been doing it alittle longer. Now everyone else has 35 they caught on to the abusing of the mechanic.
After next patch he's going to have to learn how to play a mage like everyone else that has grown accustomed to hally hitting 80% of the fight every 1.4 seconds.

I know nothing of PVP, but can speak to this. All I do is merchant stuff, and have held vendors at the $$$ Tower and my own shop in Yew. The only player made weapons I've seen sell decently are GM katanas, followed by halberds and the occasional kryss. Other vendors might have different activity, but this is my experience. The profits I make on these is fairly minimal, and pretty much just goes right back on the vendor to cover the costs of stocking the weapons that don't sell much. Should the new player population drop, I think the GM weapon market would effectively dry up.
GM Dex Suits sell decently, and usually in bulk. I imagine that's because it's more hassle to put together a decent magic suit than it is to grab a decent magic weapon.
In my opinion, a GM Smith can survive if they have a good location, reasonable prices, and a good reputation. However, if you want a merchant to be noticeably profitable, that money comes from house add-ons. You can't get them as monster drops, and it requires multiple crafting skills to be effective, so I'm assuming there's fewer characters able to make them than, say, GM Smiths. And assuming you gather your own resources, the profits are great.
Just the input of a full time merchant.

You're pretty arrogant, Faust. Thank god Ryan and Azaroth both find you as insufferable as everyone else, and you won't be allowed anywhere near the discussion on either server.

Ryan and Azaroth both have severe ego imbalances even though everyone knows both are always wrong in any given situation... Azaroth gets upset when you stand toe to toe with him and call him out on his bs and the same goes for Ryan and everyone knows this to be a fact. Azaroth gets upset everytime I bring up his cry baby experience when he accused me of hacking on the first IPY closed beta because he kept getting thumped during our duels... I don't really care if either of the two 'exclude' me from discussing their horribad development process for their shards. So long as you put your tail in between your legs and follow in suit everything is fine and dandy with them. However, if you actually disagree with their view or opinion you're not allowed to take part in the discussion.
When you see an admin rage and start accusing someone of hacking that curb stomped them numerous times during duels... you know there is a problem and that person has no business in running a shard. We won't even go into the fact that he cried fowl when Rixus went corrupt even though Azaroth was giving special treatment to virtual Asian chicks thinking he was going to get enet puna or some crap. What about when the 'global' in game online character information screen was implemented that show his char and his buddies/guild with 8x characters even though the skill cap was 700 and the shard was a couple weeks old with all these maxed out characters running around? Only took him a few minutes to pull that down after his stupidity brightly shined through on that one. This is definitely a very good reason why that shard died in only just a year.
Azaroth hates the fact that I was on the inside and know every single fact that went on there and throw it in his face every single time... He never once bothered to strip my 'secret' Bucs rune when he closed off all the islands and the free bank/mining area that was mine alone. At least until my disagreements with him started to take its toll and he firewalled me when his bs was called out after his faucet mouth wouldn't stop running.
Ryan on the other hand... there is no defending that kid at all. Soon as he took control of Rebrith, dead. Now that he has taken control of Divinity, the final nail in the coffin is coming just like what happened with Rebirth when the Great Knight in Shining Armor came to the rescue for that shard.
Please feel free to defend scum all you want son.
At least some people like myself will get a chuckle out of it.

This is apparently not the case with Azaroth and Ryan still to this very day.
Try disagreeing with either of the two for kicks and see what happens.
Azaroth always got a kick out of putting a muzzle on someone and talking smack after they couldn't respond back like it gave him some euphoria high or something.
He sure cracked me up for how pathetic he was towards a lot of people back in the day and how flustered he got from anyone including myself when push came to shove.
It sure would be a hard choice to pick which one of these two are the worst person for being an admin of a shard.
Both are great at leaching from the hard work of others though.

regardless of accuracy, mazer is right. certain aspects of the pvp on this shard are far too chance based, such as the damage ranges and the spell disruption. dont give me the whole 'UO is chance based' bullshit because i know that. people will not invest time in getting good if getting good doesn't matter 80% of the time. pretty much kills competitive gameplay.

One would assume that you would have learned from your guildy that iniatially made this post crying about spell disruption... here is a response from me on the subject that was posted shortly after his post son.
Faust wrote:Pro wrote:
Horse stamina runs out within 2 screens its not exactly a fun task to have to mount/remount during a guild fight and lose all the action.
Spell damage is too random and it requires far too much luck at the moment to kill someone they need to be more consistent.
and most spells are basically anything under lvl 7 spells means that people can gheal through it.
Spell damage is accurate and doesn't seem a problem at all. When you have a 54% chance to resist a sixth circle spell that cuts the damage in half seems very reasonable for such a skill.
How about we input some statistics on your "greater heal" disrupt to imply some simple facts here based on specific spell circle damage?
By default there is a 70% chance to interrupt a great heal spell at 1 damage.
Spell Interruption By Spell Circle Damage wrote:
First - 79% Resist Chance
Non-Resist - Resisted
Min: 76% - 70%
Max: 79% - 73%
Second - 74% Resist Chance
Min: 76% - 70%
Max: 91% - 79%
Third - 69% Resist Chance
Min: 84% - 76%
Max: 100% - 86%
Fourth - 64% Resist Chance
Min: 84% - 76%
Max: 100% - 93%
Sixth - 54% Resist Chance
Min: 93% - 81%
Max: 100% - 100%
Seventh - 49% Resist Chance
Min: 97% - 84%
Max: 100% - 100%
Your claim that all spells below 7th has a 70% chance to interrupt a greater heal spell being casted is a flat out lie.

i told you, i'm not debating the accuracy of the mechanics. the thread is about how fun the mechanics are, and my opinion is that the more chance based the mechanics get, the less likely you are to invest time into understanding them and the less fun it becomes.

ye the thread was never about how accurate the system is just how fun it is to play hence the title
