I remember this too, but there was something else I know now that I didn;t know about then so I dont know if that would have a bearing or not.
FWIW, when I last play UO on OSI I had a 100% LRC (lower reg cost) suit so I could cast without regs. I miss that suit. Can you imagine? Geez you could macro magery to GM on 15 characters by spending a few K.

Yup, I remember BP being around 8gp at sometimes.

I wanna say it was an attempt to introduce more realistic economy into the game. I also seem to remember limited quantities. Sometimes in Brit you can walk into a mage shop and buy 990 BP at a a time. Post TSA, you could never do that, is my recollection.
I forgot about the LRC suits, that's about when I stopped playing, when I realized how much I needed luck and LRC suits and uber-weaps and all that. This shard is MUCH better in its simplicity and ability to maintain a more level playing field.

AFAIK this happened when a vendor would stock regs, then a player would come along and buy say 500/600 of them. The vendor would increase the price because the reg was "in demand", but every time it restocked it would revert back to the standard price of 3/5gp.

On OSI you could definitely increase the stock to the max 999 by constantly buying out the vendors though. I never bought from player vendors and would spend hours in moonglow fel buying the regs until they stocked 999 (cause barely anyone shopped in fel)
Vendors always start with 10/20 of each reg (I think the min here is 20), and double their amount every time you bought them out. If they don't sellout, they decrease their amount by 1/2, I believe. The cap was 999, which would require you to buyout 7 times (3h 30m)
