Hmm, I seem to remember this too (the part about being auto-logged). I might have to go in search of proof in order for us to become more "era accurate".
This right here. However I do not think you had to actually 'say' something; I am fairly certain if the ghost(s) try to use a skill repeatedly, they still remain active, and will not be "auto-logged". Research could definitely be done to curtail this discussion once and for all... hopefully. Good luck!

That is correct.. i didnt mean it to like that.. I meant that in order to not be auto-logged you had to do something, anything, at all to not be logged. The easiest was always a macro that said something.

I also felt if a GM would ever see me, that if they checked the log and saw "you are dead and cannot do that" message over and over again it would not be good.

These are things that i didnt know back in 97 i just assumed GM were all powerful, and could see everything i saw and more..
