All of the arguments against stealing so far completely ignore one simple fact: You can negate the steal by type through simple preparation.

Enough of the whining about what a pain in the butt the addition of stealing will be. That shouldn't even be a factor in this decision since not making a tournament where stealing is allowed just caters to a particular play style.

Hemperor, I don't know what "in the field" means, but I spent a solid 2 months traveling the shard, using a GM tracker to find people that were even remotely close to me, and I killed about 250 people - never killing someone twice... and that's not including the murders and grays, so probably 300+. Add in another couple hundred people who I fought that got away, and I probably bumped into most of the regular players. I never once got stolen from "by type", though I don't think I ever ran into Tekai or Socks, and it sounds like they're the only ones using it. But I never saw you once. Maybe you were on a different field.

Why not allow tamers to bring in a 100 dragons too?

The rules are there based on the traditional ruleset that has been in place for over a decade for competitive dueling. Stealing has never been allowed in a duel just like numerous other features that would get you disqualified during a normal or traditional player run tournament. The inaccurate addition of stealing by target type through Razor makes this even more pointless in my opinion too.

We should stick to the common consensus that has been in place for over a decade now for tournaments.

this "traditional rule set" you speak of was never intended to be a part of UO. Just like tournaments themselves were never built into the game. there is alot more to UO pvp then 1v1 tank mage battles. players made up these rules you speak of, not the game designers. i see no reason that this shouldnt be considered as stealing is a very viable pvp skill in field fighting.

Dragon armies are a very viable pvp skill.

dumb argument. why dont i just hire 100 npc paladins and bring them too? because pvp isnt about NPCs and mobs fighting eachother. its about PLAYERS vs PLAYERS. get it?

Remember, thieves would be handicapped somehow by taking stealing over something else.

Not to mention snooping, and yes, you need snooping. Or the other skills we regularly have.

There is absolutely NO problem in adding another scripted event that a different style of player can play in.

10 year old tradition of dueling is a weak argument. No one is saying revamp all tourneys. You can still meet in honor in Trammel Paradise and Corp Por your frustrations out risk free.

Actually, I'm not whining in this thread. You need to check yourself chump.

Having extra DP'd items to use to FIGHT other players is not the same as standing around in a confined space in green acres and turning an event that is suppose to be about fighting into a all you can steal buffet.

Maybe you aren't aware of this but a player carrying extra DP'd items is a way of not having to have Poison as a skill while RISKING these items if a fight goes the wrong way.

Bringing dragons into a tournament is completely off base. It is a failure of an argument. Arguing that no changes or less restrictions should be made to any kind of tournament ever is somehow equal to a tamer battle is kind of funny but that's about it.

So what is the logical reasoning behind adding stealing to tournaments?

To make it less "trammel"? if so wouldn't it make more sense to just add full looting of your opponents corpse, afteral that is far less carebear then allowing one player type an advantage, that'd be fairer right?


or are we allowing every skill in tournaments as an idea? so we should allow stealthers and people with hiding, and therefore we should allow every item including invis, teleport and mr items because it'd be fair on everyone then, we can't make exceptions for certain play styles and it'll be fair because every play style sacrafices skillpoints for other areas, so we should let tamers in, not with an army of dragons (maybe one or two let's not get overzealous).

So what's left after all that? Everyone using a tamer with invis items and hiding or everyone abusing target by type steal macros on thief dexers... fun times
