Re: Swing on the run (dexing)
for my 2 gold I recall SOTR. Anyone remember or have guild joust events? How did that work w/o SOTR?
LOL at everyone claiming 56k and cable. Most people I knew back then were running 33k. I knew 1 guy with a 56k external, and he was fast. Maybe you guys are thinking of late UOR?

Your own ghetto anecdotal experiences are irrelevant.Quin the Wretch wrote:LOL at everyone claiming 56k and cable. Most people I knew back then were running 33k. I knew 1 guy with a 56k external, and he was fast. Maybe you guys are thinking of late UOR?
Re: Swing on the run (dexing)
Heh, my friends and I played from a hobby shop that had a 12 pc LAN and a T1. They ran an after hours thing where you could play from close at 9:00 to whenever the owners got tired for $10.
I had 56k at home, but boy oh boy did we sure own a ton of people those weekend nights.

Save yourself the shame and embarrassment and just assume that if you can't understand me...you're the one who's retarded.

Re: Swing on the run (dexing)
Implement what Rose had suggested.. Dexxers are just worthless here. I don't actually even have a pure dexxer anymore. I converted them all to tank mages.

Re: Swing on the run (dexing)
Seriously... I have two 7x dexers that i NEVER play. This week I was thinking about converting them to hally tanks... *shrug*Boondock_Saint wrote:Implement what Rose had suggested.. When you HAVE you use tele rings to even stand a chance at getting a kill 1v1, something is wrong.
Re: Swing on the run (dexing)
i'm still holding out but i consider doing this every time i log in. it was so fun playing a dexer back in the day. i think if we look, we can find evidence that swing on the run is era accurate. i am a master at throwing purple pots and i still can't finish the best pvpers one V one with +25 vanq weps and loaded to the gills with magic items/armor.Boondock_Saint wrote:Implement what Rose had suggested.. Re: Swing on the run (dexing)
Yeah the disabled swing on run is by far one of the most broken things on this shard.
I find that most of these kind of servers tend cater alot more to mage/tank mages when it comes to settings.

Re: Swing on the run (dexing)
tank mages would still own. it's just that dexers would have a chance to beat them just like they did back in the day. tanks were always great but on UOSA they're god. i am not a programming wiz-kid but i know something is inaccurate. i urge y'all to give SOTR another look. i think we could be more era accurate and have much higher numbers if this patch were re-implemented.Zorce wrote:Yeah the disabled swing on run is by far one of the most broken things on this shard.![]()

Re: Swing on the run (dexing)
FWIW UOSA numbers are back on the rise as IPY2 population begins to diminish...

Re: Swing on the run (dexing)
oh no doubt they're up a little right now... and we'll gain more players. i agree with the admin that this is a non-issue when looking at mechanics. i have faith that eventually this will be patched back in and the shard will thrive even more.nightshark wrote:FWIW UOSA numbers are back on the rise as IPY2 population begins to diminish...

Re: Swing on the run (dexing)
Player-base and mechanics are somewhat related at the very least. That's why I'm here. I'm new and I promise I will quit AND come back (you know the story.) I've played on more than a dozen shards like most of you, I imagine, and this is as well run as any shard I've seen. The GMs are involved, despite the client numbers there are actually a lot more human beings here than Hybrid (as they're all AFK) and IPY (though human could be taken as a subjective term, thus giving them the advantage in numbers), and this is real UO. UO like I had an idealized impression of from 13 years ago. And it's all about mechanics.
I quit UO the first time the day trammel was implemented. It seemed like the end of UO to me. Flash foward and I'm playing again on Siege Perilous and having a blast. But I quit again over mechanics. Not because they nerfed my heal mage by extending dex based healing times but because they fixed it later. As in "after I dropped my healing and anat to spend a fortune to become a scribe mage which I never wanted to play!" I quit UO Primitive cause their mechanics kept everyone off their shard (awsome premise though.) I quit Angel Island because I love my horses (I love Adam Ant too but no horses because the shard owner is a stealther is truly the lamest thing I've ever seen in the history of UO development.) I quit Hybrid because I had no pride in any of my characters that took 2 days to 7x. Those are all issues of mechanics.
But I also quit because the forums were dead. Quit cause dear masks were too neon. Quit because Brittannia shouldn't have ninjas. Quit cause there was nobody to steal from. Quit cause I felt bad about stealing your house (sorry Ross.) Quit because my girlfriend was NOT down. Even quit to avoid socializing with people I knew in real life (because I avoid them there too.) Quitting is almost like the essence of UO to me. Or would be if it weren't relapsing. But when I quit here it will be because of PvP.
I haven't been here long enough to say PvP sucks and I don't think it probably does. But I am completely disinterested in the one dimensional tank mage orgy. I don't care if you play one. I don't care if you pwn me, roxxor meh boxxor, or emote nasty things over my dead body but I will not be training a tank mage ever again. I only did it the first time to be 1337. But what I do recall from the time was that my tank mage was not more effective in general PvP than my fencer. Personal skill or lack thereof? Probably. We've all gotten better over the years. Specifics? Hard to recall. I just remember being absolutely confident of putting naked mages in the ground with a poisoned blade. Could be that we all learned how to play dexxers earlier. We sure as hell trained them faster and I know from personal experience that it can take years to learn how to effectively kill as a pure mage.
If you ask me what I'd do to improve things I'd say dex based healing, defensive wrestling, random para/conc blows, alchemy/scribe/poison magery bonuses (though maybe no purple pot bonus cause that can be worse than tank-mage-only PvP), stun punch/disarm, and the str+100/2 HP equation or whatever that was (but then we'd have to rename the shard.) I also like non-PvP related things like only tamers riding nightmares, most of the UO:R housing (cause where's the middle class homes?), plant growing (trammiest thing I ever loved about UO), and one character only (this WILL improve your experience if you've never played under this circumstance.) Ask someone else and they'll say "golly gee, I'd like a place were no-one can murder me, steal from me, loot me or my kills. . . Oh, and hot pink sandles that explode in a text cloud when you mouse over them. Someone else probably wants a night elf mohawk or a feathered hat that says "I pre-ordered blah blah and all I got was..." Somebody thinks this should be more like WoW, somebody wants instanced spawns, somebody wants angel wings cause FlyFF FTW and somebody else wants the whole shard to be spammed with "ULTRAKILL!" whenever they don't lose!
It's sad but I've been involved with UO for nearly half of my years now and I've learned a lot. Mostly, that bitching is half the fun. But also that the thing that will kill the fun faster than anything else is when the devs start listening to your suggestions about how much better it would be if. . . or so an' so's are over powered. . . or un-nerf blank. For the record, UO Second Age IS broken and that's most superlatively era-accurate (aside from Sephiroth and Darth Maul spammin' sales pitches at Brit Bank.)

Re: Swing on the run (dexing)
I pvp with vanqs and purples and I can hardly finish a naked tank mage. I'm rarely on the defensive 1v1, but getting the kill is extremely difficult with the current mechanics. Almost gotta hope they get stuck someplace or stop to try a recall/g-heal.Matty wrote: tank mages would still own. it's just that dexers would have a chance to beat them just like they did back in the day. tanks were always great but on UOSA they're god.
