Re: Trophy Turn in System / Event Updates

So basically rather than inventing controversies we should just be patient because the staff is aware of a desire for PvE oriented events and is working on it.

Well, we each play what we like. Some of us like both the PvM and the PvP aspect. For those of us strange creatures, I have found that PvE events in the real world provide excellent opportinities to do both. The Orc/Troll invasion of Vesper was a clear example of this. There was a TON of PvM, and there was a fair deal or PvP, where you had people chasing around thieves that wanted to steal the trophies. That particular event was very fun for me and my guild, not only was it held in our own back yard, it was highly attended by a very diverse playerbase.BobDobbs wrote:I am not against PvE events, I am against the idea that there is some sort of inherent division between the two groups of people or that either group is treated better than the other by the staff. Both of which have been implied in this thread.
Are these the same events you've been talking about having almost ready for the past 6-7 months? Do we have an ETA now?Faust wrote:The solution is easy and has been mentioned in the past ladies and gents... non-instance based events.
A very good new one is in the works and moving along quite nicely.
Hopefully, when it's quite successful the final push to get the rest of them into the actual world will finally move forward.
Heck yeah, more NPC invasions!Pirul wrote:Zong wrote:Kinda funny how pvpers get a trammel environment but the pvers dont.![]()

Yes, the event mentioned above in my response is the large scale PvE event that has been in development for quite some time now. However, just in the last couple weeks a huge portion of it was completed finally(been busting my arse trying to get this finished before college starts back up). The foundation of the project is pretty much completed and the rest of the work is simply tedius carbon copy coding from one dungeon to next with the slight tweaks for the areas that require unique attention for each dungeon.Pirul wrote: Are these the same events you've been talking about having almost ready for the past 6-7 months? First off, this is not about voting. Start a new thread for that.Zong wrote:Lets add factions so we all have something to do and another source of silver. I am sure we can convince ourselves its era accurate if we try hard enough.
We also dropped to #20 on the top 200 list. So vote.
Sorry I was not clear, I meant monthly as in it would run the whole month then switch. I see your point as its not an event though. Maybe make it into an event where lord british had something stolen and locked in a chest in X dungeonvoodoo wrote:First: Why once a month? It seems like it could run parallel to the PvP event system with the same frequency fairly well. The total silver supply could be done such that the Silver is drawn from a 'total pool' so that it's impossible to draw more Silver into the game than is healthy.Freeza wrote:What about leaving the event system the way it is with a silver reward, but doing a monthly thing that includes silver in it? Like for one month, give a % chance for lock pickers to find a silver in a chest. Maybe the next make it a % chance for a tamer to get a piece of silver upon successfully taming a dragon.
The % would have to be low to keep the supply in check but this would also promote more PvE elements.
I prefer more events because I love CTF. I would play it whether or not there was a silver prize for the winning team. The events are just fun to participate in.
Secondly, that's not really an event, more of a random chance to get loot - and loot is not the main point here. There would have to be an event beginning and an event ending, but since we already have an IRC bot for that, it seems like it could be done with relatively little work.

I'm highly confident that it's going to serve as a platform of example to begin launching the current events(some may need heavy modification) into the actual world itself. There is also a very large 'Quest of the Avatar' quest based on the Eight Virtues that sits on my to-do list too. The particular event being discussed above is more of a large scale event divided into sub events based on each of the dungeons.
Derrick is pretty excited about getting this project out there though.
I would vote for a monthly town invasion at a random time during the month, also, I think it would be cool if the invasions were not even announced, they could be at 2:30 in the morning or whatever, you'll have to look for them, and if you find one itll even better, and you know there isn't going to be the same bunch of people group ganking the entire event because they wont be able to be organized and ready 24/7. And, make it rly, rly hard to farm for silver ie. tons of monsters and balron and poison ele invasions and such.Kelektra wrote:I would also like to see more invasions events. I was like 2 days old during the last invasion in Vesper so needless to say i killed a few things and then got my arse handed to me.
Maybe it would be possible to setup a monthly or bi-monthly invasion event on a random city. Something for the masses to look forward to.
Ah, I get you now, and yeah, that's exactly the kind of thing I'm suggesting too. Code-wise, it should be possible to use the current Silver/Trophy system (and I should note to Faust that I didn't mean to imply that Silver the item is inaccurateFreeza wrote:Sorry I was not clear, I meant monthly as in it would run the whole month then switch. Or make a special dragon that needs to be tamed cause its wreaking havoc on the town and no one can stop it - its not kill-able and once tamed it relaxes and flies away. These are just ideas I had off the top of my head heh.
The Vesper one was a blast, and AFAIK it was unanounced. I logged in to find 4 orcs and a Troll inside our public GH, standing right next to me. Talk about instantant action!!! Also, trophies were hard to get since only Siege Captains had them. They were as tough as nails to kill, and once they went down, there were some serious ninja looting of the trophies, which pissed people off, which provoked PvP, which created total chaos as waves and waves of orcs and trolls kept rolling in.Kabal wrote:I would vote for a monthly town invasion at a random time during the month, also, I think it would be cool if the invasions were not even announced, they could be at 2:30 in the morning or whatever, you'll have to look for them, and if you find one itll even better, and you know there isn't going to be the same bunch of people group ganking the entire event because they wont be able to be organized and ready 24/7. Haha he said "do it"Faust wrote:Depends on how long the wife will stay content with me sitting there coding for several hours.. don't marry a non-gamer unless you plan to never do it people. Would hate having to take another leave of absenece on this project that is long over due already.
