UO Second Age

At 48/37, I was screwing around outside Delucia and twice tried to tame a mongbat. Each time I got a message saying that I had no chance to tame the creature. I'd just tamed a rideable llama so I know how to do it.

Is there any kind of plausible explanation for this? Thanks for any input.

Skill in animal taming isn't high enough.

There are actually two different mongbats, a weak one that takes 25 skill to tame and a stronger mongbat that takes 70 skill to tame. Both look exactly the same and have the same name.
