Removing your Player's Backpack

I remember you used to be able to literally remove your backpack from the Paperdoll and place it on the ground. It still counted as your backpack so somebody had to make a Snooping/Stealing check when they looked inside and took something. IDK if you can do that here or how you would if you can but if you can't I thought I'd suggest it.
From the Playguide:
2.12
Backpack
"While it is possible to remove and discard your Backpack, this is a very bad idea."

What the hell? what playguide are you referring to? I started pre T2A and played all of T2A, and never knew about this.
wow...?

I am referring to the Second Age Playguide. If you need photographic evidence:

2nd & 3rd Lines underneath the Backpack heading. Hard to read since it's mirrored, I know but it's there.

The only instance that I am aware of where players could remove their backpacks came fter the introduction of housing decoration tools. Players were able to lock down their backpacks in their house and raise or lower them with their house decoration tools. As a result, the bag would "pop" from their paper doll and on to the ground. From there, players would dye their bags, and "pop" them back on to their paper dolls with the new color. At some point, GM's got wind of the bug and began re-huing and banning players for using the bug. In any case, I have never heard of any other instance where this was possible, especially in era.

I'm sure this will be a futile response but I am certain that you were able to do this in era.
I was walking around Britain one day when I saw a backpack on the ground. I tried picking it up and got the Stealing gump. The player nearby said it was his and that he was able to do it.
Anyways, I know that's not evidence but the pictures I just showed you are. It's probably a lot of coding work so I'll understand if the Staff doesn't want to go through the effort of putting that in Era Accurate or not

I've seen this before. IIRC I witnessed it only on Sphereserver shards set up to mimic pre-T2A/early T2A era. I wasn't aware this existed in reality(edit: Freudian slip. OSI is my reality I guess) though.
The play guide most likely is early T2A based though. Have you seen any other references Chewbackas?

This should be present in the demo if it's true.

I actually remember this... I even did it on one occasion. You just had to click on the backpack in your paperdoll and drag it elsewhere. I cannot remember if you could put another backpack in its place or if it was gone for good and a new character had to be created though. It was a long time ago, just after T2A started I believe.
I also have the book to confirm this. It is on 2.12 of the Playguide.

yes, once again tons of people have come together to envision something that never existed.
I don't ever remember this myself but I didn't start until '99 T2A. That response just gets on my nerves

Just because you don't remember it, does not mean it did not exist. If you can make out the pic in the earlier post, you will see it is in the Official T2A Playguide that came with the game. Or better yet.....

The playguides (Prima and Origin) were notorious in era for giving bad advice and misinformation. Just FYI.

Both instances of removing your backpack existed.
I don't think either of these actually existed in the timeframe of the server, though.

I agree, by the time I began playing summer of '99 this didn't exist
