I want to dive in!!

Hello everybody!
I've played Atlantic since '99 and stopped in '02. Since then I've played IPY, hybrid, and Angel Island. Unfortunately this game keeps coming back to haunt me cause of its infinite nostalgia it brings unto me...and I want to play this shard for it seems like the best free shard out there, it really does. I also unfortunately started playing uo during it's best days, but I was 9/10 years old and just weak minded. I sucked at uo I didn't start getting any kind of skill until I started playing free shards...
I'm not exactly sure where this post is going to be honest...
I want to play! I've been too long without uo... AOE 3 just doesn't cut it... Right now I'm in Barcelona, Spain studying away my third year of university... I came here to learn Spanish, and that I must do (I need to be able to talk to my extended family). I really shouldn't play uo... I also didn't even bring a mouse for my laptop and money is so short especially cause of this exchange rate I shouldn't even buy one...
I really want to play and join this utopia known as Ultima Online... but I will have to wait until after this academic year is over, and I'm back in the States with a mouse, internet it my room (I'm in the school's library right now), and not such a high opportunity cost if you will, of playing uo.
How long do you think free shards will be around? Do you give them another 5 years? 10 years? I just wanted to vent a little, confirm that free shards in general will be around for a while, and above all let everybody know that this is a great thing going on here, and I will be a part of in starting sometime in May.
I hope this shard will still be up and running for a while? When did it start? IPY shut down when i was playing it. Hybrid sucked. Angel Island I loved but it did not have enough players and also shut down when I was playing it.
I look forward to trying to kill every single one of your characters at some point.
