How are thieves supposed to survive? And why not make the Chameleon potion invulnerable to AllNames? If not, it defeats the purpose.

We've made several revisions on Test Center even since the update stuff was posted on the website... those changes are no longer exactly current.

Shoving past someone while stealthy will reveal you.
Snooping will reveal you.

He's right, I've run across this patch a couple times but didn't mention anything as it is a fairly gamebreaking concept for theives and the more nerfing we do of anything but hally mages the less fun it is...(no I do not have a thief)

I do remember stealthing past someone and being revealed. Can't say I remember becoming revealed from snooping. Does anyone else remember this?

The HOC chat leading up to the patch note is pretty convincing IMO

I "remember" this, but my memory has been hashed with UO:R and sleep in the past 10 years -_-

I have seen these patch notes via Wayback Machine

I thought the patch was actions that revealed you when hidden would reveal you when stealthed. Ill try and find it.

You could always hide then snoop afaik

Snooping while hidden reveals you really? This couldn't have been accurate for the whole era. That sounds a little crazy, but who knows.....

P.S. Not saying it isn't true, just saying that it sounds like stealing would have been so damn difficult.

I believe it is only while stealthed.

revealed while stealthing not while hiding...so you would have to rehide before snooping

So you can hide...stealth up to someone (wait for timer) hit hide, then steal?

I don't remember anything like this, but then again I rarely played my thief.

I heavily played a thief in the T2A (prior to UO:R) - and I KNOW I could snoop without being revealed. I did it all the time at the bank in Delucia, and outside Delucia. This had to be around 2000 or so. I think more needs to be dug up on this.

EDIT: I could be wrong and maybe was just imagining things. But I was pretty sure it didn't break stealth. Still searching.

Thanks for looking into this, I'm hesitant to take any action on this unless we're certain.

According to Stratics STEALTH page, before and after April 2000 - snooping while STEALTHED breaks it. Snooping while HIDDEN keeps you hidden - but not while stealthing.

October, 1999 - http://web.archive.org/web/199910222311 ... tealth.htm
March, 2000 - http://web.archive.org/web/200003012325 ... tealth.htm
June, 2000 - http://web.archive.org/web/200007110620 ... alth.shtml

If this is true - then as a Thief in order to stay hidden while stealing, you must HIDE > STEALTH > HIDE > SNOOP -- effectively 20 seconds before you can snoop anything. Blah.

BUT - I haven't been able to access the official UO sites on Archive.org to confirm or deny this. If anyone else finds anything there, post it here :)

With Hemps post and this quote from the stealth page it should be pretty air tight.
Any of the actions which normally unhides you still will. (including snooping)
