UO Second Age

So I placed a boat near my house and then bank my keys. Then server goes down about 30 minutes later and when it comes back up my boat is gone and yet I still have both keys to it.

Whenever I recall off either key it is like it doesn't exist....

This has to be a bug, is there something I'm missing? Could it be because I placed it too close to when the server had its last save? I am also missing the gold I used to buy it, so there's no doubt that it saved me buying it but didn't save my placing of it.

It's possible, but if I did wouldn't I have the gold for it and why would I have the keys for it?

Okay it wasn't a bug, turns out the reason why it decayed is because I didn't put the anchor back down.

Doh!

So yea, it's all good a couselor cleared it up for me. Next time I will not forget.

Unless Derrick recently added extreme decay rates without mentioning it, boats don't decay within 30 minutes without the anchor down. They take the same amount of decay time with or without the anchor. None of my boats use the anchor and I refresh once a week or so.

there is NO extreme Decay .. i have 3 boats out at sea, none of them have there anchor down and they are just fine.

Boats should not decay any faster without the anchor down. Please page so I can take a look at the keys.

never had a problem. If you have both keys, I dont see how it could be save related.

Random associated newbie question...

I remember back in the day you could store items on the deck of your boat and in the forward storage. Pretty much a house boat... is that possible on this server? (Of course the random decal to OP is talking about scares me )

Boats should not be considered secure storage, but items on the deck and in the hold will not decay.

Items cannot be seen on a boat unless the boat moves or is entered, but if items are seen most spots on the boat would allow the items to be lifted from an adjacent ship. The hold cannot be accessed without entering the boat.

As far as boats disappearing, this is the only case I've ever heard of like this, and while it remains unexplained, I have a high level of confidence that boats will not just disappear.
