Snooping distance

I played a thief in the beta in 1997, and again in live from 1997 - 2000 before taking a break and I strongly recall being able to snoop from 1 space away from a character as opposed to next to them.

Do any of the other thieves on this server who played OSI "back in the day" recall having to stand next to someone to snoop? Back in high school my friends and I all played thieves on Baja and the general consensus was that we never had to stand next to someone to snoop, only to steal.

the pack stays open beyond just the adjacent tile, you still have to get close to flip it open so as not to look so obvious. Ride by snooping...set the pack as last target from their paperdoll from afar as you casually walk by flip the latch on the bag, scope it out from a tile or so away...target what you want with item ID (even at 0 skill), make your attempt when the time is right...steal/last target

For the record, the range on snooping before that patch was 2 tiles.
