I saw this IDOC at 10:15am EST. It was still greatly worn at 3:00am. Did anyone see it go IDOC earlier than that?

well the action is resulting in one of the largest interguild ganking I ever seen ever. Got mym and UoH working together with some thieves against anyone who comes near. I suggest a mass gating in.

There are many reasons why someone may announce an IDOC.
1. They get pked and rage.
2. To many people show up so they figure if they can't have it all why should anyone else.
3. To make things exciting and see some pvp action go down.
4. They see someone they absolutely hate and would rather not get anything at all if it means they can't have anything.
5. They have waited for hours and have no idea when it falls, and real life is kicking in. So before they call it a night or go do whatever they have to do, they announce it so that whoever was there doesn't get as much stuff as they would have.
6. They like the attention.
7. They do it for the sole purpose of ruining it for the people who dedicated their time to finding out when it drops and watching for it to fall and preparing for it. I believe that this reason exceeds all the others, it is Ultima Online's nature to cause grief. Anyone holds the power of announcing it to the whole shard, and sometimes that is a power that some people just cannot handle.
8. They could care less and do it for no reason at all.

Public idocs are pretty fun and generally bring alot more action then you'd expect.

I agree. I mean if you see a big idoc you should expect it to be announced or the word to spread. If you are looking to cash in on some major idoc loot, then you will get that at the small-medium sized idocs that no one knows about.
In my experience with IDOCs, the smaller the idoc the better chance you get everything. One time me and my friends hit this idoc that no one even knew about, it didn't look like that much. We scored a black dye tub, three neon hair dyes, rares, 100+ vanqs, 200+ powers, and around 300k in gems and gold. Idocs like these are pretty rare but if you look long enough you will find them. I have found others like this that I got all to myself or whoever my partner was at the time, but not as big as the one I'm talking about.
At any large IDOCs with people around, the thing you want to do is use the fact that people are distracted with everytihng going on to take advantage of the situation. Find out what you want the most, estimate the item to weight ratio to guess what is inside chests, make targets to go for and go straight for them. Get your loot, get out, secure it, come back and try and get more.
