UO Second Age

Tonight I decided to take a break from lurking outside your house to take some friends on a fishing trip. I picked them all up from Wind & surprised them with the news!


We grouped up at our house, and got our tackle (Matron once told me that fishing is more effective with heavy xbows) We decided to make it interesting and added a pot to the biggest catch of the day. We all tossed in and put the pot on the floor. Then, silly me realized i forgot the bait in my bank. I asked my friends to hide out for a bit while i get the things I need from the bank

I pop a gate to town, and no sooner, some thugs come rolling through looking for some leet pvp! They see our prize money and one of them grab it. This pissed my friends off really bad! His partner went for the gold on his corpse and got the same treatment from my friends

wait wait wait.. mages have archery and tactics?

Every NPC spawns with every weapon skill except archery, wrestling, and tactics (though, they could obviously hit without them... just not as often, and not as hard).

Supposedly, a bug in the UO code allows NPCs and monsters to use whatever weapon is in their hands (or their bare fists) by checking the skill level of their highest weapon skill. So if an ogre is using a club and has 80 macing and 90 wrestling, he hits as though he had 90 macing skill.

Even the shopkeepers have weapon skill values, magic resist skill, etc. Heck, Town Criers have those skills too, and very high actually. They're almost as strong as city guards!

I was unaware of this, i went for dramatic effects, but it worked quite well. between arrow hits and spell hits, there's no escape once you try to steal my prize

That was an entertaining tactic and story.

I never knew you could "guard" items on the ground! How awesome is that? And how did you find mages with heavy crossbows? I've played UO for a long time and have never seen them.

I assume he equiped the mages himself. I haven't hired an NPC in about forever, but I'm pretty sure it's doable.

Oh and nice work. Us orcs have great appreciation for good traps.
