UO Second Age

Bleh, still having packet loss issues...and I wasn't until very recently.

I'll ping uosecondage.com or new.uosecondage.com and sometimes get all the packets back but most of the time its 25% to 50% loss while other websites don't give me any packetloss.

Any help? Really want to keep playing

If the packet loss problem is on my end, would it have anything to do with my router?

At what hop are you dropping packets .. post a detailed report of a ping and a trace route to server plz.

This will give you the hops to the UOSA server. Read the MS data columns as Longest dealy | Shortest Delay | Average Delay

IMHO anything under 80ms is good with 1-10 being optimum.

You may get "Request Time Out" on some of the hops. This is due to SNMP being turned off on the queried device.

What is your network configuration on the machine having issues.

Hey guys thanks for the input. Before I post the tracer, this is my problem (time related):

It's 5:45am right now and I am pinging just fine, no lag problems whatsoever. But the packet loss seems to happen during the later hours when more people are on (like after work).

I made a character on divinity just to see if it was my client or something but I pinged and had no lag on that server.

I'm located in the Los Angeles, California area, if that makes any difference, and pinging around 92ms. When the packetloss occurs, my ping is just about the same (around 100) with 25-50% packetloss happening frequently (but not constantly), it causes my character to freeze up for a sec when running and the game feels "choppy."

Here is the tracer at 5:56am having no lag/ping problems at all, I'll post another tracer when I get home from work (the later hours seem to be when packet loss occurs due to more people?):

What information are you looking for?

I'm running Vista 32-bit and have a dsl setup with an old alcatel speedtouch home dsl modem (router?).

any kind of firewall or software installed that might be doing a stateful inspection of the packets? although if it does occur more often in the evenings it may be your provider has oversubscribed your subnet's bandwidth capacity.

Sounds like a classic case of excessive traffic or technical issue with your ISP. The really horrible thing about that is, you'll never be able to convince your ISP that there is a problem unless your internet goes out completely.

Are you using wireless networking?

Nope, not using wireless just a regular dsl modem with ethernet cable.

I'm at work posting this so I'll post a lagged trace route in a few hours.

But if it is a problem with my ISP, why is it only the secondage server that is having packet loss? I had two clients up to test it out: one on T2A and one on Divinity and only T2A was laggy.

I've been playing on T2A for a few months now I believe and everything was GREAT up until a couple days ago when I started having these issues. I haven't changed anything with my computer so my only guess was that it had to do with the new server.

Man this is such a perfect server for UO and if I can't get this taken care of I don't know what I'll do . Hopefully, if it is some kind of temporary spontaneous problem with my ISP it will resolve itself in time.

As far as two diff shards running and only one lagging .. I'm not sure were the other shard is located In Real Life, but I don't think it is hosted any were close to Uosecondage. That means the route you take to get to Uosecondage.com and the other site are probly very diff at some of the later hops. If owner of a hop is having problems then one cli. could lag and the other run fine .. (this is why I suggested a trace route instead of just a ping)

Well guess what? I logged on right now at 9:23pm and there are almost 500 people online and I am having no lag or packet loss Everything seems back to normal. Will post again with a trace route if the packet loss returns.

So I guess the problem was with my ISP or something?
