"a scroll"

Post by Caswallon »

Now I am aware that this patch note claims they no longer drop as of Jan 1999:
Treasure maps and more! Jan 19 1999 3:05PM

* The "a scroll" will be removed from creature treasures.

However I noticed this in testing in October 1999
In Testing Update Oct 27 1999 7:09PM

Monster Treasure
Some issues with the treasure carried by monsters will be addressed

* You will no longer get the item, "a scroll". These items have been removed and you will now get a genuine, usable magic scroll.

And this from Feb 2000
Server Publish Feb 23 2000 10:22AM CST

NPC and Monster Changes

* You will no longer get the item “a scroll”.

I started August 1999 and I had 2 of every direction & colour "a scroll" to decorate my library, and up until the removal of bank box weight limits caused me several headaches, so im positive they were still a part of monster loot up until our cut off point. The fact that their removal was "In Testing" as late as October 27th, and are mentioned again in Feb 2000, well after our cut off point makes me think they should be dropping from mobs. It looks like OSI intended to remove them for sometime but either every time they patched something it reverted it into mob loot, or it kept getting put on the back burner as its a minor thing.

PS: I know im bringing up loads of tiny, minor stuff recently, its not intentional, I am not that much of a pedant, im just stumbling across it while looking for something else  .

Just found this aswell:
In Testing Update Oct 29 1999 7:30PM

* The fix for "a scroll" is not currently on Test Center.
http://www.uo.com/cgi-bin/newstools.pl?Article=1169

Which pretty much backs up my back burner theory.

please route this to the existing "a scroll" thread.

I swear to god I'm quitting UOSA if this issue isn't 100% T2A accurate :-)

Can someone please page me if they find one of these?

It's my understanding that they do currently drop.

What we get instead of "a scroll" is a blank scroll.

They have yet to spawn for me here since i started. It should look like a actual spell scroll with a color on it but only say " a scroll" . I remember them being a nuisance in game because they dropped so much.

After they stopped spawning , everyone wanted one.
