Eliminate ghost cams

I know that we aren't supposed to name other shards so i will simply say that my previous shard was run by Adam Ant.

We had ghost cam problems there also until a fix was put in so that after 15 minutes(?)(should be more like 10 I think) the ghost would "slip into the ethereal plane" and could ONLY see HEALER NPCs. They could not see corpses drop or anything else that would tip them to activity.

This might inconvenience a few folks that were not actually ghosting but I think that it would be an acceptable level of inconvenience. A change like this would go a long ways to eliminating ghost cams.

The code for the shard was made public so something like this might not be too hard to implement.

Except that the ghosters argue that it's era accurate, so nothing will be changed.

i am new here and wasn't around back then, so take this post fwiw.

that e.g. multiple accounts + pk + ghosting or idoc + ghosting lead to a different gameplay and favors certain playerstyles compared to true t2a era is hard to argue, but an equivalent gameplay is (as far as i can tell) not what this shard tries to replicate: this shard is about game mechanics and ghosting as it is now is era-accurate in this regard. so it will not be changed.

It wouldn't be era accurate indeed.

Plus, what happens if a have a friend that comes to resurrect me? I won't be able to see him?

I'm always tempted to macro mine on 3 clients while ghosting on a 4th when I see people justify these things.

It's usually only a small portion (1%) of the players that exploit and abuse mechanics at the expense of the others, but imagine if EVERYONE did it? What if everyone ghosted multiple clients or mined on 3 while playing a 4th (related)? A sticky situation, but in the end certain people get off exploiting at the expense of others.

I was under the Impression that We are only Allowed 3 accounts!

if this is true ... how would you get away with a 4th?

with 3 accounts .. you can always use your own ghost cam to spot the pk's ghost cams

Unattended resource gathering isn't allowed anyway :D. Wouldn't Macro mining on 3 accounts fall into this rule?

I've seen quite a lot of ghost scouts back in the days.

Just for the roleplay side I would allow ghost "cams". What if I want to play as a ghost and my psychic friend uses Spirit Speak to give me commands?

The only solution to this is to make the ghosts 100% visible all the time to everyone.

Not if you have the windows resized so you can see all 3 miners - or have multiple monitors.

Although this is accurate and could be done in era, I think the main problem is the potential scale of it on this server. (With 3 free accounts that can be logged in simultaneously) Say you have a guild of 10 people, that's potentially 20 ghost campers that guild could have spread around the world. 2 each and the third would be their PK...

Personally I have a ghost logged at my favorite farming spot to check for this kind of thing, I just keep it up on my second monitor. But it's unfortunate I even have to do that IMO.

The only way I can see to fix this problem while staying era accurate would be to limit players to 1 account logged in at a time. There's already been discussions about that before...

Tons of suggestions were made to fix this one was having a timer on ghosts in dungeons where they get evacuated after ten minutes or so out to it's enterance or to a shrine and psuedo banned from all dungeons until they res again.

Like I said, making ghosts visible to players would solve this "problem"

how would making them visible solve anything if they are there all the time?

You'd know if someone was there spying as soon as you showed up, so you could just leave.

Also, it could stop ghost IDOC camping and spot blocking.

Completely agree...I think the solution here is to find a viable method for only allowing access off of one computer.

You don't have to push your "one account" agenda in every thread, mang.
