Anything I can do about lag?

Howdy! I just started playing here.
I've been having a bunch of fun, but I do have one concern:
I'm freaking laggy.
I don't really get it, other people seem to be moving around just fine, but even mounted I'm pretty slow. There's no way I'd ever be able to PvP, and certainly would have issues with any large number of mobs.
I've got a 12mb down and 5?mb up cable connection, and I'm located in the Midwest.
Is there anything I can do to be able to be competitive? If not, I'm pretty content anyways. I just miss being able to blaze around on mounts.

Uncheck "Use Smart CPU Reduction" on the General tab in your razor.

If unchecking smart CPU reuction doesn't work are you possibly using Vista?
There are a fair few threads with people having the same problem, slow gameplay but other people seem to be moving smoothly. Do a forum search for "Vista lag" if that's the case, otherwise have a good read through the server & client support section
http://forum.uosecondage.com/viewforum.php?f=32 there are a lot of potential fixes there.
Hope you get it sorted out, and welcome to the shard!
Edit: Aye this thread should be moved to Server & Client Support

Does it seem like connection lag, or client side lag?
You could try running a tracert, see if there's a problem somewhere along the route to the server.
Start > run > type in: cmd
In the dos window, type: tracert uosecondage.com
Here's mine. Not great, but not that bad either. I don't lag whatsoever as far as I can tell in-game. I'm in western Canada.
