Didn't die but lost a title

I logged on today with my main and found he was no longer Lord, not just regular Glorious. I didn't die so I dont know how he could have lost Lord. Maybe I was healing a grey or something?

I verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry vaguely recall a conversation way back in the day where a tamer told me there's only a finite number of Lords, it's not an automatic title at a certain karma level, you have to be one of the highest [number] karma people on the shard.
I have no idea:
a) if I just invented this conversation in my head
b) if that's exactly how it went
c) if he was telling the truth/not mistaken
d) if that is implemented here
but I thought it might be relevant

Yes, this is true.
Fame fades over time. You won't be Glorious Lord forever. Your karma, however, stays the same.

I seem to have the opposite problem; I was Illustrious for three weeks farming titans, died by accident, when I rezzed I was Glorious. It's been awhile since I've died, wondering if I die again, will I rez as Glorious Lord...

Perhaps you didn't close out your character box until your died so the new title wasn't reflected?
