The way I remember PK's

I was never a PK back then, but I knew it was hard to be one.

PK's didn't recall from dungeon to dungeon. They would hide at the X roads or hide in dungeons and wait for their chance to strike. When you got PK'd you didn't really have a chance, because you didn't know what hit you.

After someone got PK'd, they would immediately get to the closest bank and spam "PK in shame" etc., only to have 10+ blues run to the location to hunt the PK down.

It's exactly how I remember it too. However 10 years of some kid spamming "PK in shame" - well, it's only natural that the PK "style" has evolved

Only once was I pkd and able to get a group of guys together to go after him, props to Fart Knocker, but yea I agree. I was talking to my best friend who started playing UO with me and he asked if the x-roads were still a hotspot. I told him no and that I dont know why no one is ever up there.

I don't recall ever being killed by a hidden PK.. maybe this was a pre T2A thing (I started playing shortly after T2A release). I was killed by huge groups of 5+ PKs storming the room hundreds of times. Solo PKs were very rare! I played a solo PK but was never that effective due to connectivity issues. My PKs would nearly always die to a lost connection, client crash or something.

Generally not but a smart pk would cast invis, I dont think I've ever seen a pk with hiding. I've seen a few solo. Usually they run into a bally room or something where theres a lot of monsters and just start murdering people. I remember one pk coming into a room in Wrong or Hyloth and killing me and 2-3 guildmates.

I remember PKs hanging out in specific locations, like the xroads and Brit GY waiting for traffic, but then to be honest there was a lot more traffic back then. If you hide at brit GY on this server you'll be lucky to see 2 people an hour walk past.

It's not a problem with this server, we're just at a point where most people are better players than they were back then. Back on OSI I'd hug the mountains to avoid the road, travel in packs or bank my stuff and retrieve it when I got there. Now I just recall to roadkills, and I bet everybody else does to. In fairness, I've had PKs lying in wait there a few times. I guess that's a similar thing.

I remember PK's being the second tier in the whole "player interaction scheme" in Ultima. People would start by flagging by looting corpses that wasn't theirs, then there would be random PK's at dungeon entrances, Deceit, crossroads and Brit cemetary, and finally, players would graduate to chaos vs. order. The highest quality pvp always seemed to be from chaos/order :(

It's worth hiding and waiting when a server population is 3,500.

When it's 500 (or more like, 150 or so plus a ton of macroing characters), sitting and waiting isn't as exciting.

Also, no one walks anywhere on this shard. Rune libraries are plentiful and everyone knows how valuable horses and magery are. And everyone is rich enough to afford both. Back then, not so much.

No one here seems to remember how prevalent of an issue the lag and lost connections were back then. I feel like I lost connection once a night, and I was on a college T1. Not to mention the lag. Forget PKs, I died to more friggin bone knights & lag than I care to admit. That's a HUGE reason too, as to why there is so much gold on this shard.

My brother used to roll a solo pk during T2A and when he would hit up populated spots I would roll on a blue and xheal him.
Had a 60k+ bounty before we died, I think it was the 2nd highest on the bounty board on GL for a while.

Yeah seriously.

Dialling ISP...
*fax noises*
*Opens UO, waits for 10 minute load time*
*Logs in, takes 10 minutes because you were hanging on "Entering Britannia"*
"OK I've got my silver weapon, time to go hunt some liches and save up for that 2 story!"
*recalls to deciet*
*Connection Lost.*
"F*CK!!!"

You think you've seen good PvPers before? You ain't seen shit! My ISP could kill anyone, at any time. Even worse was having to leave call waiting on because my parents got pissy if I didn't... Call waiting was certain DC every 30 mins or so. Just had to pray it wasn't in the middle of something nasty.

Covetous 2 was where I'd have my connection issues, on Lake Superior it was overrun by rats and serpents, you could barely get through with the teleport spell because almost every tile had some stupid monster on it

True this is.

I'd say 75% of my deaths playing on OSI were due to "Connection Lost" while PvM'ing.
