Other shard advertisers on forums and ingame. Don't get mad.

Its back and forth, really. There are more than handful of people who advertise our shard on Divinity's forums, Private Messages, their IRC channel, and actually ingame. Where do you think most of the new players may be coming from? I came from Divinity because someone messaged me in a PM on the Divinity forums, and like many others, all I had to do was check it out before I easily decided to play here.
Now theres rumor all over the Divinity forum of some of their top PvPers making characters here to "own the server." They plan on making a guild called UO Divinity and war everyone and win. And they're pretty good, and they might win.
But I highly doubt its going to have the desired effect.
As a matter of fact, I see them building their characters here, enjoying the shard, and actually staying. Not only staying, but also getting their friends to join. Either way, more competition on the shard is always welcome.
And about advertising other shards....the bulk of a UO freeserver's playerbase comes from other UO freeservers. Not all, but I would say the majority. Its rare to see completely new UO players, or players who have played in the past and come back because they accidentally found their way to connectuo.com and felt nostalgic.
The next time you guys spot an advertiser from Divinity or any other shard just be like "Buddy, I came from [insert shard] and this place is way better. As a matter of fact, since you're already here, try it out for awhile." Seriously, turn it right back on them. If that doesn't work, just do as was done before...laugh at them, report it to our staff, and continue on.
