An old UO pro  , who dropped UO not long before UO:R, has arrived at T2A, and is asking for a skill-call clarification (because I never tried what I am about to ask in the old days, only thought about it).

Does a Blacksmith need Mining skill to smelt manufactured items back into ingots, or is item-smelting success based on Blacksmithy skill; what skill-levels offer what (styles of, percentage-wise) returns?

Why I'm asking: in "the old days", I had a GM Miner/Smith before T-Hunters ever even existed in-game; when I created a T-Hunter, my Smith simply "kept" his Mining.

I am resurrecting both character templates here and, if my Smith won't need Mining skill to recover ingots from manufactures, then I don't need a 2nd character with GM Mining; do I?

I've been looking around for commentary and/or success-tables to answer this question, but I haven't had any luck. Please, please, someone tell me how it is.

Regards,

SS

I'm not certain on the percentages, but your mining skill is what determines how many ingots you get back from smelting an item.

That is correct, Sir. I would also strongly recomend GM'ing mining before starting to work smithing.

Thank you; I was afraid of that. For me, that's going to prove to be a bit of a nuisance ...

Any mega-Smithing will be on hold, then, until I'm ready to use my THunter to performing the item-recovery smelting; I'm not going to GM the same resource-gathering skill on 2 toons, and the Smith has other uses for that 100 skill points.

Thanks muchly for the replies.
